The <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Law</strong> Library (“<strong>Law</strong> Library”) is the largest legal information center inthe area covering western <strong>Texas</strong>, eastern New Mexico, and southern Oklahoma. The <strong>Law</strong> Library and its staffserve and support the educational, instructional, and research needs <strong>of</strong> the <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Law</strong>.The <strong>Law</strong> Library collection contains nearly 400,000 volumes (or equivalent) in books, treatises, periodicals,micr<strong>of</strong>orms, government documents, and other materials in law, social sciences, and other subjects. The <strong>Law</strong>Library provides faculty free access to multiple full-text legal databases, including LexisNexis, Westlaw,Bloomberg <strong>Law</strong>, and other national databases. Research Support: TOC<strong>Law</strong> Librarians are ready to assist faculty with their research endeavors. Keeping Current & Alerts: TOCThe <strong>Law</strong> Library <strong>of</strong>fers services to keep faculty abreast <strong>of</strong> current developments in their area <strong>of</strong> study orinterest. The Keeping Current service is tailored to meet the needs <strong>of</strong> faculty and is available through the followingservices (just to name a few): SmartCILP—This service is provided by Gallagher <strong>Law</strong> Library (<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Washington). The<strong>Law</strong> Library downloads information from Gallagher and sends notifications directly to faculty’s emailannouncing new law review articles published. Articles are arranged by subject and by the Table <strong>of</strong>Contents. <strong>Faculty</strong> receive CILP notifications via email every Monday. The CILP list can also be accessedthrough My<strong>Tech</strong><strong>Law</strong>. LexisAdvance and Westlaw Next—Both Lexis Advance and WestlawNext have alert notification features.This service can be set up one time with research queries. <strong>Faculty</strong> can ask <strong>Law</strong> Librarians todesign research alerts to their specifications and have notices delivered daily, weekly, or monthly. Bloomberg BNA Email Updates—<strong>Faculty</strong> members have the option <strong>of</strong> signing up to receive regularupdates to titles <strong>of</strong> their choice. BNA provides titles on various legal subjects such as antitrust, banking,bankruptcy, criminal, environmental, and family, just to name a few. RSS Feeds for Blogs—The <strong>Law</strong> Library can assist you with setting up RSS feeds to particular blogs ornews sites. Check Out/Renew Items: TOCThe first time faculty check out items from the <strong>Law</strong> Library, they must present a current <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong><strong>University</strong> identification card to a Circulation Desk attendant. All other loan periods vary.Annual <strong>Faculty</strong> Account Reconciliation: TOCEvery spring the <strong>Law</strong> Library works with faculty to reconcile and renew items checked-out to them. A <strong>Law</strong>Library Circulation staff will send faculty members a list <strong>of</strong> items found on their <strong>Law</strong> Library account.<strong>Faculty</strong> are encouraged to advise Circulation staff on whether to renew the item or pick-up the item to bereturned to the <strong>Law</strong> Library. Circulation staff will work with faculty regarding items found on the facultymember’s account which cannot be located.Missing Books: TOCThe <strong>Law</strong> Library uses a specific procedure to handle missing books (i.e., books that are missing from the shelfand that are not checked out). Once a missing book is reported to the Circulation Desk, a staff member willfill out a form and conduct a search for the book. The search will continue until the item is found ordetermined to be lost. If the item is lost, then the <strong>Law</strong> Library may replace the item.If faculty need a library book that is missing, the <strong>Law</strong> Library staff can either borrow it via Interlibrary Loan(ILL) or can rush order a new copy, depending on availability and cost. Laptop Computers: TOCThe <strong>Law</strong> Library has both PC and Mac laptops available for checkout. The laptops have commonly useds<strong>of</strong>tware such as Micros<strong>of</strong>t Office, WordPerfect, and Internet browsing capabilities. Because <strong>of</strong> high demandfor newer laptops, faculty may borrow a newer laptop for up to two weeks at a time. <strong>Faculty</strong> needing to checkout newer laptops for in-house and/or <strong>of</strong>f-campus use may reserve laptops by contacting the Circulation Deskat circulation.law@ttu.edu OR by calling 742-3957.Older laptops are occasionally available for checkout for longer terms. Older laptops may run slower and nothave the latest versions <strong>of</strong> s<strong>of</strong>tware. To determine if an older laptop is available for checkout, contactComputer Support at 742-4897 or email computersupport.law@ttu.edu.Interlibrary Loan Service (ILL): TOCIf faculty need an item that the <strong>Law</strong> Library does not have, or if the item is missing, the <strong>Law</strong> Library staff canobtain the item through a database or through ILL.To place an order for ILL, fill out the ILL request form available on the <strong>Law</strong> Library web site athttp://www.law.ttu.edu/lawlibrary/library/services/ill/. Although staff will make the best effort tosecure your ILL order, we cannot guarantee the item will be lent through ILL. Staff will update you on your request’s status and willdeliver the item to your <strong>of</strong>fice or mailbox when it is received.Course Reserves: TOCCourse reserve items are held behind the Circulation Desk. The <strong>Law</strong> Library staff can set up course reservesfor the classes a faculty member is teaching that semester. Because it takes time to gather and process items, aminimum <strong>of</strong> THREE weeks should be allowed for processing. Viewing Events/Lectures:The <strong>Law</strong> <strong>School</strong> has two video services: Media.<strong>Law</strong> and Media Services. Both services catalog videos and audiopresentations such as class lectures, live streaming audio/video broadcasts, podcasts, and other recordedinstructional content.Media.<strong>Law</strong> contains recordings <strong>of</strong> special events and lectures usually recorded from the Lanier Center.1. To access Media <strong>Law</strong>, go to http://media.law.ttu.edu and click the drop down menu under “WelcomeGuest” near the top right <strong>of</strong> the page and select the “Log In” link.2. Click the “eRaider Sign In” button.3. Log-in with your eRaider username and password.4. The recordings <strong>of</strong> events will be listed under the “Default” tab.TOC28
