The facility in the west end of the city is located across the road from the popular Kelvin Grove Art Gallery. The landmark multi-purpose venue is home to an indoor sports arena which hosts international events and also has gymnasium facilities. Fire and water damage had affected Kelvin Hall, in Glasgow Fire & Flood Restoration services – together in harmony! Rainbow International were recently instructed to restore a property and its contents following major fire & flood damage caused by the same incident. Following a blaze at Kelvin Hall, one of Glasgow’s biggest sports arenas, around 11 fire engines, a forward control unit and several police vehicles were promptly at the scene. Grey smoke could be seen coming out of the side of the building as firefighters ran hoses into all four sides of the venue. The fire broke out in the building’s health suite on the ground floor. Although structural damage was limited, the centre remained closed while the affected area was cleaned and dried. The work was secured through Glasgow City Council who called Rainbow to visit site and assess the damage, provide an estimate to restore the fire and smoke contamination and water damage to the buildings. Being aware that the venue was in full use and that a snooker legend event was set to take place in just 2 weeks time, Rainbow gave a guarantee that they would have all restoration complete for the event. Rainbow’s local office in Airdrie has an excellent working relationship with Glasgow City Council who have always been delighted with the efficient service Rainbow had provided. They were therefore more than happy for restoration to commence on the buildings as soon as full access was granted by the fire service. Restoration was completed well within the council’s deadline and subsequently Rainbow contacted Kelvin Hall’s contents insurers, submitted an estimate to restore the contents which was duly accepted based on the excellent work done previously on the buildings. Ten firefighters with breathing equipment entered the building, found the fire and put it out before it could spread. However, a water main adjacent to the fire melted as a result of the extreme heat and caused extensive water damage to the venue. Page 8 | Rainbow Restorer | Issue 29
Team AON choose Rainbow Team AON wanted the radiators and oil coolers from the race cars cleaned after each race, specifically using the Ultrasonic process. This process cleans delicate items very efficiently by using pure water and absolutely no chemicals, to ensure the integrity of the parts being cleaned is maintained. Paul Ryan was recently contacted by Team AON, Arena International Motorsport who are based in Littlehampton and who had searched the Internet for a local company with an Ultrasonic Cleaning System, and found Rainbow’s local branch. Team AON has been created through a commercial partnership between AON and Arena International Motorsport. Headquartered in Chicago, AON is the leading global provider of risk management services, insurance and reinsurance brokerage, as well as human capital consulting. Mike Earle’s Littlehampton based Arena International Motorsport has a long history of success in touring cars. Earle is one of the most respected figures in the industry, having created the Onyx Formula 1 Team in the late 1980’s, which scored points and finished on the podium in its first season in Formula 1. They are the first team to race the new Global Ford Focus Touring Car, which made its racing debut at the first round of the 2011 BTCC season at Brands Hatch. To date Paul and his team have cleaned a large number of radiators and oil coolers and Paul is expecting that the level of orders will continue. Fire recently ravaged a historic Lakes house that was once the home of William Wordsworth. Firefighters from five stations fought through the night to tackle the huge blaze at Allen Bank, Grasmere. The severity of the fire resulted in a major clean up operation The fire, which started in the roof early one morning from a suspected electrical fault, quickly consumed the first floor. Allen Bank was built in 1805 and given to the trust by Canon Rawnsley in 1951, William Wordsworth lived there between 1808 and 1811. Rainbow’s branch in Morecambe were instructed to strip out all the fire damaged debris, clear the property of soot and smoke residue and protect the original fireplaces and other unique features by building chipboard casing surrounds.
