What foods should I not give to my baby?
Avoid giving your baby:
• Egg whites until one year corrected age. This reduces the chance of an
allergic reaction.
• Peanut butter until two year corrected age. This reduces the chance of an
allergic reaction.
• Honey to your baby. Honey may cause botulism, which is a type of food
poisoning.
• Citrus fruits (oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruit) during the first year as
they may cause an allergic reaction.
• Cow’s milk until your baby is 12 months corrected age
a. Only offer homo (homogenized) cow’s milk.
b. Avoid giving Skim, 1% and 2% milk as babies need the fat in the milk
to grow and develop normally.
• Dairy products that are “low fat”, “skim” or “light”.
• Soy drinks (except soy formula), rice or other drinks or herbal teas.
