Provide a statement or essay telling why you would like to be an engineer, mathematician or computer scientist and/or telling how you
believe you will make a difference as an engineer, mathematician or computer scientist and/or telling what influenced you to study
engineering, math or computer science.
I believe all the information above is true. I hereby apply for a Space Coast Section SWE Scholarship. I understand that I shall be
notified by February 15 if I have been selected as the recipient of the award. I certify that I will not be attending school as a member
of any branch of the Armed Services nor am I obligated to serve as an enlisted person in any branch of the Armed Services
following graduation.

SPACE COAST SECTION SOCIETY OF WOMEN ENGINEERS
FRESHMAN SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE: One $1,000 Scholarship will be awarded annually to incoming freshman women
studying engineering, math, or computer science.
ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible, applicants must meet the following qualifications:
1. Is (or will be) accepted for enrollment towards an undergraduate degree in engineering, math, or computer science at an
accredited or SWE-approved school.
2. Is in a position to accept the scholarship in the school year for which it is being awarded.
3. Is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
4. Is a resident of Brevard, Indian River or Volusia Counties, Florida.
5. Is not attending school as a member of any branch of the armed Services nor is obligated to serve an enlisted period in
any branch of the Armed Services following graduation.
GENERAL:
1. The Space Coast Section Society of Women Engineers Scholarship Program is open only to women.
2. No application materials will be returned; no exceptions will be made.
3. Scholarship recipients will be notified approximately February 15.
4. Non-recipients will NOT be notified unless a self-addressed stamped envelope is submitted with the application.
5. Do NOT submit any photographs of yourself with your application.
6. No application will be considered for judging that does not meet all the required application items in terms of required materials,
postmark, and submission in a single package.
7. Optional Financial Information: Applicant should complete the “Anticipated Expenses” and “Anticipated Sources of Income”
portion of the application only if she wishes financial need to be taken into consideration when the application is reviewed.
The freshman scholarship is awarded on the basis of merit, and financial information will be used as a determining factor only
in the case of a tie.
8. Additional copies of the SWE Scholarship Application may be secured from SWE Scholarship Committee, P. O. Box 1297,
Canaveral, FL 32920. Requests must be accompanied by a self-addressed stamped envelope. Use of photocopies
of official application forms is permitted. Applications are also available for download at www.swe-sc.org
APPLICATION MATERIALS:
To be accepted for judging, an applicant must submit ALL REQUIRED ITEMS, as defined below, postmarked NO LATER THAN
JANUARY 31. All of these items must be submitted IN ONE PACKAGE or ENVELOPE. The applicant is responsible for seeing that
all necessary data (letters, transcripts, statements of acceptance, etc) are submitted by the deadline and in one package.
Applications which do NOT conform to these instructions will be immediately disqualified from judging with no further follow-up.
Reference letters may be submitted in individually sealed envelopes with the application package.
The following specific items are to be submitted:
1. Application Form -- Completed Space Coast Section SWE Scholarship Application, including required attachments describing
activities, employment, other professional data and the Applicants Statement.
2. Transcript(s) -- Official copy of applicant’s high school transcript(s), showing grades for the entire enrollment in all high schools
attended, including the first semester of the senior year.
3. Statement of Acceptance -- A statement or letter from an accredited college or university indicating acceptance for entry into the
undergraduate math, science or engineering curriculum for the coming academic year. If this is not available at time of application
submission, award will be made contingent upon receipt of this data.
4. Letters of Reference -- Two letters of reference, preferably typewritten on 8 1/2” x 11” sheets. One from a high school
teacher and one from a person who has known the applicant for two or more years and who is not a relative or member
of the applicant’s family.
