SPACE COAST SECTION SOCIETY OF WOMEN ENGINEERS<br />
FRESHMAN SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM<br />
SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE: One $1,000 Scholarship will be awarded annually to incoming freshman women<br />
studying engineering, math, or computer science.<br />
ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible, applicants must meet the following qualifications:<br />
1. Is (or will be) accepted for enrollment towards an undergraduate degree in engineering, math, or computer science at an<br />
accredited or SWE-approved school.<br />
2. Is in a position to accept the <strong>scholarship</strong> in the school year for which it is being awarded.<br />
3. Is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident <strong>of</strong> the United States.<br />
4. Is a resident <strong>of</strong> Brevard, Indian River or Volusia Counties, Florida.<br />
5. Is not attending school as a member <strong>of</strong> any branch <strong>of</strong> the armed Services nor is obligated to serve an enlisted period in<br />
any branch <strong>of</strong> the Armed Services following graduation.<br />
GENERAL:<br />
1. The <strong>Space</strong> <strong>Coast</strong> Section <strong>Society</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Women</strong> <strong>Engineers</strong> Scholarship Program is open only to women.<br />
2. No <strong>application</strong> materials will be returned; no exceptions will be made.<br />
3. Scholarship recipients will be notified approximately February 15.<br />
4. Non-recipients will NOT be notified unless a self-addressed stamped envelope is submitted with the <strong>application</strong>.<br />
5. Do NOT submit any photographs <strong>of</strong> yourself with your <strong>application</strong>.<br />
6. No <strong>application</strong> will be considered for judging that does not meet all the required <strong>application</strong> items in terms <strong>of</strong> required materials,<br />
postmark, and submission in a single package.<br />
7. Optional Financial Information: Applicant should complete the “Anticipated Expenses” and “Anticipated Sources <strong>of</strong> Income”<br />
portion <strong>of</strong> the <strong>application</strong> only if she wishes financial need to be taken into consideration when the <strong>application</strong> is reviewed.<br />
The freshman <strong>scholarship</strong> is awarded on the basis <strong>of</strong> merit, and financial information will be used as a determining factor only<br />
in the case <strong>of</strong> a tie.<br />
8. Additional copies <strong>of</strong> the SWE Scholarship Application may be secured from SWE Scholarship Committee, P. O. Box 1297,<br />
Canaveral, FL 32920. Requests must be accompanied by a self-addressed stamped envelope. Use <strong>of</strong> photocopies<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficial <strong>application</strong> forms is permitted. Applications are also available for download at www.swe-sc.org<br />
APPLICATION MATERIALS:<br />
To be accepted for judging, an applicant must submit ALL REQUIRED ITEMS, as defined below, postmarked NO LATER THAN<br />
JANUARY 31. All <strong>of</strong> these items must be submitted IN ONE PACKAGE or ENVELOPE. The applicant is responsible for seeing that<br />
all necessary data (letters, transcripts, statements <strong>of</strong> acceptance, etc) are submitted by the deadline and in one package.<br />
Applications which do NOT conform to these instructions will be immediately disqualified from judging with no further follow-up.<br />
Reference letters may be submitted in individually sealed envelopes with the <strong>application</strong> package.<br />
The following specific items are to be submitted:<br />
1. Application Form -- Completed <strong>Space</strong> <strong>Coast</strong> Section SWE Scholarship Application, including required attachments describing<br />
activities, employment, other pr<strong>of</strong>essional data and the Applicants Statement.<br />
2. Transcript(s) -- Official copy <strong>of</strong> applicant’s high school transcript(s), showing grades for the entire enrollment in all high schools<br />
attended, including the first semester <strong>of</strong> the senior year.<br />
3. Statement <strong>of</strong> Acceptance -- A statement or letter from an accredited college or university indicating acceptance for entry into the<br />
undergraduate math, science or engineering curriculum for the coming academic year. If this is not available at time <strong>of</strong> <strong>application</strong><br />
submission, award will be made contingent upon receipt <strong>of</strong> this data.<br />
4. Letters <strong>of</strong> Reference -- Two letters <strong>of</strong> reference, preferably typewritten on 8 1/2” x 11” sheets. One from a high school<br />
teacher and one from a person who has known the applicant for two or more years and who is not a relative or member<br />
<strong>of</strong> the applicant’s family.<br />
