Labels, serial number and MAC addresses 

Our automated process tracks every unit’s serial and MAC address. Lanner 

creates product and shipping labels per customer specifications. With each 

shipment, customers receive a list of all serial and MAC addresses, allowing 

easy tracking of products in the field. 

Manual and support materials 

Support materials help reinforce brand identity. Lanner arranges the design 

and printing of your CDs, manuals, and other support materials per customer

Prototypes 

The first prototype allows customers to test their application and benchmark its 

performance. During this stage Lanner helps customers with testing guidelines 

and BIOS tuning to maximize performance.

In-Vehicle Computing 

While the transportation computing marketplace offers boundless opportunities 

for a variety of applications. Lanner engineers design our hardware to excel in 

three main areas: 

Security through a Mobile DVR 

Transportation companies are now starting to outfit their 

fleet of vehicles with DVRs for security and safety purposes. 

These DVRs operate with WiFi, 3G and GPS for on the fly 

communications and can utilize up to four cameras. Other 

features of these potential DVRs include Power over Ethernet 

and alarm relays. 

Entertainment through a In-Vehicle Signage Player 

Providing a captured audience with both entertainment and 

advertisements allows public transport vehicles another way 

to make additional money. Lanner has a speciality in digital 

signage hardware and has formatted it to fit in the in-vehicle 

settings, our products can provide digital signage both inside 

and outside of the vehicle. 

Tracking through a Fleet Management Computer 

All our mobile computing offerings include at least one Mini- 

PCIe expansion slot with a SIM card socket attached. This 

means a GPS or 3G module can be attached to provide any 

company with the hardware behind a comprehensive vehicle tracking and 

management system. Each system is also compatible with WiFi modules and 

can be outfitted to transmit signals in wireless enabled environments.

Application Story: StrandVision 

StrandVision CEO, Mike Strand, needed a platform that could run 24 hours 

a day- 7 days a week, withstand shock/vibrations and had great graphics for 

flawless playback. 

Mike Strand, CEO of StrandVision, received a press release from Lanner 

Electronics describing a platform similar to what Mike was looking for, but with 

one notable exception. Mike was concerned that the Intel Atom D510 lacked the 

processing power that was necessary to have flawless playback on flash video. 

After Mike voiced his concerns, Lanner engineers requested a test version of 

StrandVision software, installed it on the LEC-5510 and recorded the results to 

show Mike. The video showed the LEC-5510 had seamless playback and Mike 

decided to order a sample to begin development. From there everything went 

as it should. StrandVision purchased a test unit and customized the hardware 

into a Linux appliance that worked with StrandVision software. Mike decided 

to use Lanner’s LEC-5510 as StrandVision’s exclusive mobile hardware. 

Future Developments 

StrandVision has planned for further developments- using the LEC-5510’s 

additional functionality as a spring board. StrandVision is currently developing 

their software to include geotargetting. Geotargetting allows content to be 

updated when certain triggers are hit on the GPS system. In the scenario 

where the signage is located outside a vehicle, geotargetting can be used to 

convert animated signage to a static advertisement in compliance with local 

laws concerning distractions on a highway. The GPS can tell when the vehicle 

is moving over a certain speed limit and automatically shut off the content. 

LEC-5510 was successfully 

deployed for this in-vehicle 

digital signage application. 


Application Story: Customized In-Vehicle Computer 

Our client was an expert in global transit security solutions, whose business 

was primarily in providing a CCTV computers for vehicles. The company came 

to Lanner to help add more features to their computer, to provide other 

services such as: fare collection, IP/analog cameras, and multiplexing signals 

for buses. 

To add more applications, the client wanted to rework their existing computer 

design into a more modular one. While these modular options added to enduser 

customizability, the multiple iterations would require different CPUs 

and different chassis options. Making it harder to manufacturer- most of 

the clients previous partners turned them down. Since Lanner owns its own 

manufacturing facilities it was easy to say ‘yes’ to the many SKU variations. 

With the board level design being the same, Lanner produces all the boards at 

once, and simply change Lanner assembly lines to fit each SKU. Our production 

facilities were designed to run the multiple assembly lines that such projects 

require. Lanner was also picked for the logistics and sourcing team, helping 

the client come up with solutions outside of our specialty. 

The final product is an in-vehicle Intel-based computer that the client will use 

in buses and other land vehicles. The system design integrates logging, video 

and audio surveillance and GPS tracking which is supported by comprehensive 

data management systems to deliver position-aware, fleet-wide surveillance 

and incident management solutions. 

Lanner’s first project with this customer was deemed a success, with several 

hundred products made every two months, and installations of the product 

taking place worldwide. The client therefore chose to continue working with 

Lanner engineers to make their next customized product.

LEC-7 Series Computers 

The slim chassis and rugged mechanical design allows for the LEC Series platforms to 

be placed and utilized almost everywhere. The corrugated aluminum casing allows 

heat to dissipate off the top of the platform allowing for a fanless design. 

The small form factor and various available mounting kits, ensures that the platforms 

can fit almost anywhere. The platforms are compatible with wall mounts, VESA 

mounts, and rack mounts. These platforms also feature a power input with a wide 

voltage range. This helps this series of platforms to be easily integrated into most 

factory systems. 

Machine Vision / Vision Control Systems 

The LEC-2126/2126N have outstanding throughput for network performance. 

These appliances are designed to be connected with multiple Gigabit Ethernet 

cameras for machine vision / vision control systems. 

DVR, Video Surveillance, Security Systems 

Multiple appliances carry onboard hardware or can be upgraded via expansion 

slot to serve as DVRs and NVRs. 


Vending Machines, Self Serve Kiosks, Factory Automation

The LEC-7 are designed to run constantly, requiring little maintenance and 

upkeep. With additional onboard 3G and WiFi modules, these platforms can

Step 1 

Place the VESA Mount on the back of the system. Align the VESA Mount 

with 4 holes on the back of the system and screw the VESA Mount in 

place. The IPC can be mounted one of two ways pictured in the following 

photos. 

Step 2 

Place another VESA Mount on the reverse side of the monitor. Align the 

VESA Mount with 4 holes on the back of the monitor and screw the VESA 

Mount in place. 


Step 3 

Attach the system to the monitor. Align the 

hook of the system’s mounting bracket with 

the holes of the monitor’s mounting bracket. 

The system’s VESA mount should clip to the 

monitor’s mounting bracket and lock in place. 

Step 4 

Use 2 screws to fasten 2 pieces together. These 2 holes are on the top of 

the monitor’s back.

BIOS Customization 

Customers can request to change the BIOS default settings, add booting images or 

add some extra services. They can contact Lanner’s TSD or their sales person. At that 

time, Lanner will arrange a test version for customer verification. After the customer 

approves the version, Lanner will release the new settings to the document center. 

Device Drivers 

Lanner provides the related drivers based on the device components in the system. 

The device drivers are for both Windows and Linux based operation systems. All the 

drivers are included in the driver CD as a standard accessory. Customers can also 

access Lanner’s Technical Support Center to download the most updated drivers.

Operating Systems 

Lanner is an industrial hardware manufacturer for a variety of markets. At Lanner 

we can help customers preinstall or prepackage different operating systems while 

assembling the platforms. We can also provide test versions of embedded OS image 

with both Windows or Linux. Embedded OS image customization services are available

Utilities 

Most of Lanner’s embedded systems come with an onboard watchdog timer and DIO 

feature. Lanner has developed test programs with source demo code under DOS OS, 

which are included in the Driver CD. Windows and Linux based utilities are kept for 

development, please contact Lanner’s account sales or technical engineer for new 

update.
