<strong>Greenville</strong> FFA Holds Annual Recognition Night<br />

The <strong>Greenville</strong> FFA Chapter celebrated its many accomplishments, both as a chapter and<br />

by its individual members, during the 82 nd Annual FFA Recognition Night held on Thursday, March<br />

8 th . Approximately 125 members, parent and guests attended the evening held at <strong>Greenville</strong> High<br />

School.<br />

Special guest speakers for the banquet were Jessica Shanahan, State FFA President and Duane<br />

Edwards, <strong>Greenville</strong> FFA Alumni.<br />

Citrus Awards Announced<br />

The other awards and recognition presented throughout the evening included Top Citrus Salesmen<br />

Sheiann Mead and Lucas McCabe was named the Top Citrus Salesman Career Four-Year<br />

Total with $1,588.00 in total sales.<br />

Other Fruit Sales Award winners with sales of $ 250.00 of citrus were Kyle Huston,<br />

Top Citrus Salesmen Honored<br />

Dustin Snyder, Brittany Harter, Patrick Garber, Madison Schatz, Trever Mann, Emily Vanhorn,<br />

Johnathan Gibboney, Regan Garber, Rachel Bolyard, and Austyn Potter. With over $400.00 in<br />

Sales were Korey Garland, Catherine Gibson, Tim Ball, Lucas McCabe, and Rachael Schmitmeyer<br />

Members with over $600 in Sales were Jalena LeMaster and Wyatt Sharp. With over $700.00 in<br />

sales was Brooke Stebbins. Alyssa Garber had over $900 in sales and with over $1000.00 in Sales were<br />

Thomas Shaw and Sheiann Mead<br />

<strong>Greenville</strong> FFA on the TIGER<br />

<strong>Greenville</strong> FFA has just recently completed their eighth year of presenting a weekly broadcast<br />

on 97.5 The TIGER. The program is aired each Saturday morning<br />

around 8:30 am. Sarah Spears and Thomas Shaw have been<br />

serving as hosts of the broadcasts and they will be interviewing<br />

FFA members each week. Along with the weekly interviews,<br />

they will be keeping the public informed of what is happening<br />

with the local chapter, giving results of contests and activities, and<br />

providing a short FFA History lesson. Also a feature of the<br />

weekly show is Grandpa Charlie Greenhand who provides a<br />

safety tip of the week.<br />

The chapter appreciates the management of the TIGER for<br />

all the help and support they are providing for this project. Be<br />

sure to listen each and every week for<br />

<strong>Greenville</strong> FFA Happenings on 97.5 FM The TIGER.<br />

Star Awards Presented at Parent Member<br />

Awards Banquet<br />

Seven members received Star Awards. They were<br />

Alyssa Garber, Star Chapter Degree; Patrick Garber and<br />

Thomas Shaw, Star Greenhand Degree; Emily Vanhorn and<br />

Kiara Davidson, Star in Agriscience; Regan Garber, Star in<br />

Ag Placement and Justin Pitman, Star in Agribusiness.<br />

Dustin Snyder, son of Steve and Lori Snyder, has been<br />

involved with the FFA all four years. He has shown market heifers<br />

and currently works as his SAE. He has participated in TractorCade,<br />

Fishing trips, Urban and Rural Soil Judging, fruit sales, Safety<br />

Awareness Days, and many other activities. His favorite activity was<br />

the snow tubing trips during FFA Week. Dustin’s future plans are to<br />

start his own cattle operation and raise club calves. Snyder will<br />

remember most the TruePointe Ag Day field trip.<br />

Brandi Spille has been a two year member of the FFA.<br />

Spille, daughter of Gary and Kristi Spille, raised market hogs for her<br />

SAE and is also currently working in a job placement site. She has<br />

been involved with FFA Week activities, Safety Awareness Days,<br />

Urban Soil Judging, March for Babies, FFA Homecoming Float, and<br />

attending the Farm Science Review. Brandi’s future plans involve<br />

attending Wilmington College, getting a job, marrying a rich farmer,<br />

and having lots of kids. Brandi will remember most of all the laughs<br />

and good times in Ag Business class.<br />

Four Year Members Honored<br />

The Four Year Award went to Justin Pitman,<br />

Sarah Spears, Lucas McCabe, Dustin Snyder, Sara Cole,<br />

and Regan Garber.<br />

Students Receive Proficiency Awards<br />

Awards presented by Advisor Daryl Goodwin for the proficiency awards were Alyssa Garber,<br />

chapter winner in Agricultural Processing; Regan Garber placed 1 st in District 5 in Agricultural<br />

Services Placement and was also named as a state finalist in this area; Patrick Garber was the chapter<br />

winner in Agricultural Services Placement while Regan Garber was named a chapter winner in the<br />

Agricultural Services Entrepreneurship area; and Trever Mann was chapter winner in Beef Production.<br />

Regan Garber place 4 th in District 5 in Diversified Agricultural Production Placement and<br />

Patrick Garber was named chapter winner in this same area. Thomas Shaw was named chapter winner<br />

in Dairy Production Entrepreneurship and in the Diversified Livestock Production area; Madison<br />

Schatz was named chapter winner in Equine Science Entrepreneurship and Sara Cole was named<br />

winner in Equine Science Placement. Diversified Horticulture Placement chapter winner was Jalena<br />

LeMaster; chapter winner in Food Science and Technology Placement was Molly Magoto; and chapter<br />

winner in Vegetable Production Management Entrepreneurship was Lucas McCabe. In the Grain<br />

Production Placement area, Regan Garber was named Chapter Winner and in Outdoor Recreation, Justin<br />

Pitman was the Chapter Winner.<br />

Justin Pitman was named chapter winner in Swine Production Entrepreneurship; and Jalena<br />

LeMaster received recognition for Sheep Production Entrepreneurship.<br />

Judging Teams Honored<br />

Judging Contest recognition certificates were given to the following teams. The Agronomy<br />

Team placing 5 th in the state consisted of Patrick Garber, Regan Garber, and Alyssa Garber. The Urban<br />

Soils Team members placing 6 th in the District were Regan Garber, Sarah Spears, Skylar Bannon, Jon<br />

Unger, Robert Erbaugh, Dakota Edger, Alyssa Garber, Eric Bankson, Molly Magoto, Justin Pitman,<br />

Brandi Spille, Sara Cole, Lucas McCabe, Courtney Overton, and Brooke Stebbins. The Rural Soils<br />

Team placing 15 th in the District consisted of Sam Barga, Thomas Shaw, Sheiann Mead, Trever Mann,<br />

Rachel Bolyard, Emily Vanhorn, Patrick Garber, Austin Davis, and Madison Schatz.<br />

The Dairy Judging Team placing 55 th in the State were Thomas Shaw and Austyn Potter. The<br />

Outdoor Power Team placing 3 rd in the District were Brian Sanders, Justin Pitman, and Josh Kenworthy.<br />

The Equine Science Team placing 2 nd in the State consisted of Sara Cole, Ivy Berger, Chelsia Wintrow,<br />

Madison Schatz, and Rachel Bolyard. The Ag Mechanics Skills team placing 4 th in the District were<br />

Christian Jennings, David Shultz, and Josh Kenworthy.<br />

Southwest Skills Classic Contest participants placing 4 th in the State consisted Austin Davis,<br />

Seth Gessler, Austyn Potter, Wyatt Sharp, and Cody Bashore. In the Poultry Contest, the team placed<br />

36 th in the State. The team consisted of Lucas McCabe, Will McCabe, Molly Magoto, and Kennedy Norris.<br />

The Wildlife Management team placed 29 th in the State and team members were Kyle Huston, Austin<br />

Davis, Sam Barga, and Trever Mann.<br />

The Greenhand Quiz team consisted of Rachael Schmitmeyer, Haley Kimmel, Ashley Yoder,<br />

William Hittle, and Emma Sowers. The Chapter Parliamentary Procedure team received a Gold Rating in<br />

the Sub District competition and team members were Patrick Garber, Regan Garber, Alyssa Garber,<br />

Jalena LeMaster, Sheiann Mead, Molly Magoto, Thomas Shaw, and Emily Vanhorn. The Greenhand<br />

Parliamentary Procedure Team also competed at the Sub District level and members were Haley Kimmel,<br />

Tylor Bowman, Ashley Yoder, Tim Ball, William Hittle, Zach Unger, Rachael Schmitmeyer, Jordan<br />

Printz, and Emma Sowers.<br />

In the Job Interview, in the Sophomore Contest, Thomas Shaw was honored for placing second in<br />

the District. In the Public Speaking area, Korey Garland and Emma Sowers competed in the creed<br />

contest.<br />

<strong>Greenville</strong> FFA Officers Attend Ag Appreciation Luncheon<br />

The officer team of the <strong>Greenville</strong> FFA Chapter was<br />

honored to attend the <strong>2012</strong> Agricultural Appreciation<br />

Luncheon held at Romer’s. This luncheon, sponsored by the<br />

Darke County Chamber of Commerce, coincided with the<br />

ending of National Agricultural Week.<br />

Members watched as former <strong>Greenville</strong> FFA member<br />

Matt Aultman received the Agricultural Advocacy Award<br />

for his work promoting Agriculture through Keller Feed and<br />

Grain and the Darke County Farm Bureau.<br />

The officers were invited as guests of Matt and<br />

Morgan Aultman.


<strong>Greenville</strong> FFA Team Places Fourth in State<br />

Tuesday, <strong>April</strong> 10 th , five members of the chapter traveled<br />

to Miami Valley Career Technical Center for the State<br />

Southwestern Skills Classic. The team did very well and placed<br />

4 th in the state at this contest. The contest consisted of 15<br />

individual areas that students could chose to participate in. Each<br />

student could participate in<br />

two different areas and the<br />

chapter could have a total of<br />

two students in each contest<br />

area.<br />

Members participating and their state rankings included<br />

Austyn Potter 1 st in Safe Tractor Operation, Austyn Potter 5 th<br />

and Wyatt Sharp 8 th in Hand Lawn Mowing, Austin Davis 1 st and<br />

Jessica Landis 7 th in Natural Resources, Tim Ball 1 st in Painting<br />

and Ladder Safety, Austin Davis 4 th in Small Engine Parts<br />

Identification, Wyatt Sharp 8 th in assembly, Tim Ball 1 st in<br />

Personal Finance and Jessica Landis 8 th in Small Animal Care.<br />

Tim Ball was named top overall individual in the state in the<br />

Southwestern Skills Classic.<br />

Congratulations to all these FFA members for their<br />

respective placing in this state competition.<br />

Cole named to National Technical<br />

Honor Society<br />

Sara Cole recently was inducted into the <strong>Greenville</strong><br />

High School Chapter of the National Technical Honor<br />

Society. Cole, daughter of Alan and Pam Cole, was<br />

inducted based on her overall GPA, Agricultural<br />

Education GPA, her attendance, and her overall<br />

character and leadership abilities. Sara, a senior, joins<br />

Lucas McCabe and Regan Garber as members from the<br />

Agricultural Education Program.
