Built on top of RSTP<br />
Added VLAN awareness:<br />
Introduces the capability for the existence of multiple STP instances within the<br />
same bridged network<br />
Allows the association of VLANs to STP instances, in order to provide a (relatively)<br />
small number of STP instances, instead of using an instance per VLAN.<br />
Different STP instances can have different topologies, which allows much better<br />
link utilisation<br />

The protocol is fairly complicated, compared to its much simpler predecessors<br />
