Week 3 (B)
February 2013
Principal’s Report
Well done to all students and staff for their efforts and participation in
the School Swimming Carnival. It was great to see students in house
colours, cheering and actively engaging in events. Congratulations to
Cowabbie the winners of the carnival, however, Kindra was not far
behind and I imagine next year’s carnival will be a well fought out
affair. I applaud the turn out of parents to this event. It was great to
see so many parents able to turn up to support their children and
engage with the school. Mr Brookes, Annette Taylor and their team
have done a great job with organisation and preparation for the
carnival, all deserve commendation.
Students in Secondary have been spoken to by myself in relation to
the core rules and expectations at the school, the consequences that
occur as a result of actions and their responsibility as a student at the
school. I encourage all parents to talk with their students about any
issues that arise and relay these back to the executive team at the
school. This will help us to provide a productive environment for your
student’s learning.
This week’s Breaky Central and School
Newsletter Proudly Sponsored by....
Parents of students in Years 11 and 12 need to be aware that
students who have obtained a licence and drive to school are required
to follow the same rules in relation to leaving the school grounds as all
other students. Notification to the office is required when leaving. This
is important as in the event of a lock down or evacuation, all students
need to be accounted for and students leaving the grounds, who do
not notify the office, remain unaccounted for in an event such as this.
This can put the lives of teachers or emergency workers at risk. A
note is required from parents by any student needing to leave the
grounds during school hours. Permission from parents also needs to
be sought if the student is to drive a vehicle during this time, which
includes the name of any passengers that will be travelling in the
vehicle. If this is at lunch time, all students must have a lunch pass
and the signed permission notes. These notes can be obtained from
the Deputy Principal.
I invite any parent with concerns about their child’s education to speak
to the school about these concerns. Please ring the front office to
make an appointment to do so.
Regards
Daniel Henman
The house claiming another win was Cowabbie on 544 points followed
not too far behind by Kindra on 407 points.
INFORMATION FOR LOCAL BUS TRAVEL
TO SCHOOL
This information may be helpful for parents in
getting their child/children to school on the
school buses.
All students in Infants (K-2) are eligible for
free travel on the school buses regardless of
how far they live from the school. Once the
students are in Yr 3 they will be eligible for
free travel only if their home address is more
than 1.6kms from their school (as the crow
flies).
Students that are ineligible for free travel
may still travel on the bus but will be required
to pay a small fare.
Primary students that are going from Yr 2 to
Yr 3 are required to fill out a new blue form to
travel on the bus. This form is available at
the school or from the bus companies.
New forms are also required if the student
has changed address, changed schools or if
they are going from Yr 6 to Yr 7. High school
students will become ineligible for free travel
if they live within 2kms from their school.
Once the blue forms have been processed,
(which includes a signature from the school
Principal) the students will receive a bus
pass from Our Company if they are eligible,
(not all companies will issue passes) and will
be required to show it to the driver on boarding
the bus.
For the smaller children, it is a good idea to
tie it onto their bag.
If you have any further queries about bus
travel, please call our office on
Primary students who wait for older siblings in Secondary must do so
under the Primary COLA where there is teacher supervision. They are
not to wait under the gazebo or on the front lawn. Secondary siblings
are to collect them from the COLA at 3:20 and then leave via the front
Share the Wear
Many parents appreciated the opportunity to purchase school
uniforms items through ‘Share the Wear’ at the end of last year. We
have managed to replenish the stock after receiving more donations
of good quality used school uniforms since then. So another big thank
you to those who have donated to ‘Share the Wear’.
There will be another opportunity on Friday 22nd February 2013 at
3.00pm (after Primary School assembly) to purchase clothing. You
will find me in the Front Office. See the list overleaf of available
items. Prices range from $2.00-$5. ‘Share the Wear items’ can be
dropped off at the Coolamon Central School Office. All proceeds of
sales go to the Coolamon Central School P&C and are used to help
enhance your child's school experience.
The fundraiser is held at The Leprechaun’s Bean 180 Forsyth Street Wagga, as a memorial event for Rhonda Moffatt
(Ronnie) who passed away 2 years ago from breast cancer. Ronnie was a larger than life character who is thought of
often & sadly missed by many. She was only 48 years old and had worked at Coolamon Central School for 32 years.
Please find some breast cancer facts below (taken from The National Breast Cancer Foundation website).
What are the facts?
· Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in Australia.
· One in eight women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime.
· In 2012, 14,610 women are predicted to be diagnosed with breast cancer in Australia.
· By 2020, 17,210 women are projected to be diagnosed with breast cancer every year in Australia. This is
an average of 47 women every day.
· Increasing age is one of the strongest risk factors for developing breast cancer. More than two in three
cases of breast cancer occur in women aged between 40 and 69 years.
· Australian women diagnosed with breast cancer have an 89% chance of surviving 5 years after diagnosis.
· Improvements in survival are attributed to earlier detection of breast cancer through regular mammograms
and improved treatment outcomes for breast cancer.
· On average, seven women die from breast cancer every day in Australia. Finding breast cancer early
increases the chance of surviving the disease.
· Although rare, breast cancer can also affect men. 113 men were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008.
This is approximately 1% of all breast cancer cases.
· One in 688 men will develop breast cancer in their lifetime.
Please help support this fundraiser any way you can – the more money raised, the more chance we have of
beating cancer.
Thank You.
