The <strong>Master</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>International</strong> <strong>Studies</strong> (MIS) is a uniquely<br />
flexible program designed to prepare you to confront a<br />
range <strong>of</strong> global issues.<br />
If you’re looking for an international career in government,<br />
international organisations, civil society, or further<br />
academic work, UQ’s School <strong>of</strong> Political Science and<br />
<strong>International</strong> <strong>Studies</strong> is recognised as one <strong>of</strong> the best in<br />
Australia and the Asia-Pacific, and was ranked 40th in the<br />
world in the 2014 QS World University Rankings.<br />
There are over 30 full-time staff who are engaged in<br />
cutting-edge international research while simultaneously<br />
creating an award-winning teaching environment.<br />
The School also hosts one <strong>of</strong> only six worldwide<br />
Rotary Centres for <strong>International</strong> <strong>Studies</strong> in Peace and<br />
Conflict Resolution and the Asia-Pacific Centre for the<br />

WHAT YOU STUDY<br />
<strong>International</strong> studies is one <strong>of</strong> the most exciting and topical<br />
fields <strong>of</strong> study in contemporary politics.<br />
The <strong>International</strong> Relations field focuses on traditional<br />
and contemporary global issues. The Peace and Conflict<br />
Resolution field focuses on effective strategies for<br />
promoting peace and stability.<br />
Within this program there are over 30 course options that<br />
allow you to acquire theoretical knowledge and study<br />
contemporary problems.<br />
The hallmark <strong>of</strong> the program is flexibility. You can choose<br />
to focus on coursework options, or undertake a research<br />
thesis over two semesters working intensively with an<br />
academic staff member. You can undertake an applied<br />
fieldwork experience, working closely with an organisation<br />
in Australia or overseas.<br />
