The IBM NetVista N2200e, Thin Client
Express is an easy-to-use thin client that
customers can set up, configure and boot
locally, without having to establish a server
connection. The N2200e includes the
NetVista N2200 thin-client hardware and
special flash-card-based software that
streamlines the thin-client configuration
process to a few simple screens.
This software provides basic IBM Thin
Client Manager V2R1 desktop functions,
and enables quick access to applications
on Windows ® 2000, Windows NT ® 4.0,
Terminal Server Edition, OS/400 ® , AIX ® ,
OS/390 ® and other server-based
applications. In addition, a single N2200e
can “peer-boot” up to 30 other N2200
NetVista thin clients on the network.
With its high reliability, low cost and localboot
capability, the IBM NetVista N2200e
is ideal for those who want to quickly
install desktops at a remote location while
enjoying the rapid application deployment
and low total cost of ownership for
which IBM thin clients are known. It is also
perfect for kiosk-style applications, such
as an automated information desk.

device attachment capabilities and the
ability to run integrated business applications

The IBM NetVista N2200e, Thin Client
Express offers features and capabilities
similar to the standard NetVista N2200
thin client, with the addition of simplified
configuration and installation, and the
ability to start up without a boot server.
With the NetVista Thin Client Express, all
necessary boot files are stored on the
pre-installed Compact Flash card, along
with simplified setup and configuration
tools, Citrix ICA protocol software
(providing access to multi-user Windows
applications), and emulators for 3270,
5250, VTxxx and other terminals.

support and a native Netscape Navigator
4.5 browser in 3Q00. In addition, IBM
offers a NetVista Thin Client Express
Service Utility (for updating the flash code
image on the client) and NetVista Thin
Client Manager Operations Utility (for
remotely managing Thin Client Express
and Thin Client Manager clients). Both are
available via CD-ROM or Web download.
The N2200e can be configured to boot
from a server if desired, and it can
transition seamlessly and without cost to
be managed by IBM Thin Client Manager
V2R1. It also can transition to a Linux
environment to satisfy highly customized
requirements. These options give
customers the flexibility to take advantage
of enhanced local browser and terminal
emulator capability, Java, support
for Linux applications, and scalable,
multiple-operating-system support for
client and network management. They
also allow customers to gain additional
thin-client benefits including centralized
management and fast, flexible
application deployment.
