The Forward Leg Glance<br />
Objective: This stroke is played to a good length or<br />
slightly over pitched ball on or outside<br />
the leg stump.<br />
Method:<br />
Lead with head and front shoulder onto<br />
line of ball.<br />
Front foot lands in line with ball; top<br />
hand in control.<br />
Angle face of bat slightly to leg side.<br />
Keep handle further forward than blade<br />
to play ball down.<br />
Maintain a good balance by keeping<br />
head over front knee as ball is played<br />
and afterwards.<br />
Allow wrists to continue to turn as bat<br />
follows through (see Figure 30).<br />

The Backward Leg Glance<br />
Objective: This stroke is played to a ball just short<br />
of a length which is missing the leg<br />
stump.<br />
Method:<br />
Step back, allowing back foot to point to<br />
cover.<br />
Head on line of ball.<br />
Front foot taken back naturally.<br />
Allow ball to come close.<br />
Play ball down with angled bat, face<br />
pointing to leg side.<br />
Control stroke with top hand.<br />
Wrists continue to turn as bat follows<br />
through (see Figure 31).<br />
