and knees. Due to the medium rise, the knees will be kept slightly flexed and the feet
placement in the moment of rise will be on the Ball.
NFR (no foot rise) occurs when body and knees produce elevation, but the feet are kept
flat. Example: step 1 of Natural Tum for the lady.
FOOTWORK
This describes part or parts of the foot in contact with the floor during a step. It is to be
noted that the footwork described refers to the end of a step and does not include the way
the foot is used throughout the whole step. Example: on all normal walks back, the footwork
is described as TH, however the moving foot will first start to move back Flat and passing
through Ball before achieving the Toe and finally lowering the Heel.
OFF- BEAT STEPS
Some of the figures added do not comply with three steps/ three beats construction.
Therefore introduction of Off- Beat timing is necessary.
When dancing off-beat figures, the rhythmical division is at the discretion of the dancer.
For the purpose of clarity, the division given in charts is 2 beats (1, 2) on the first step and
1 beat (3) on the second step of the figure danced.
CBMP
The placing of the stepping foot onto or across the line of the other foot, forward or back,
thus giving an appearance of CBM being used but without turning the body.
CBM
A body action used to initiate tum. It is the moving of the opposite side of the body towards
the stepping foot, either forward or backward. Due to positioning of the lady on man's
right side, the amount of CBM does not present a problem in Natural turning figures,
however should be limited when dancing Reverse turning figures.
PIVOT
A form of stationary tum made on the ball of one foot with foot flat. When taking the
pivot backward typical footwork will be BHB to allow body weight to move forward into
next movement.
PIVOTING ACTION
1be counterpart of Natural Pivot, it is a turn to the right on ball of RF with foot flat.
SIDE LEADING
When same side of the body moves with the stepping foot at the time of taking a step
either forward or back, usually before an outside step. It includes shoulder and hip leads.
When side leading is used as part of preparation for an outside step, the step taken will
be slightly more opened than normally
