<strong>Christmas</strong> looms and with it<br />

<strong>the</strong>re are plenty of festivities<br />

afloat at Darfield Preschool &<br />

Nursery. Children are enjoy<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>in</strong>dulg<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Christmas</strong> spirit<br />

with carol s<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>Christmas</strong><br />

stories and a huge range of<br />

sparkly creative activities.<br />

Families and children are also<br />

be<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>vited to contribute to a<br />

‘Giv<strong>in</strong>g Tree’ to help those less<br />

fortunate and to develop a<br />

culture of giv<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

However <strong>Christmas</strong> is not <strong>the</strong><br />

fundraiser. 2014 also marks<br />

Darfield Preschool’s 25th<br />

anniversary so it’s no wonder<br />

<strong>the</strong>y’re celebrat<strong>in</strong>g!<br />

The recent Preschool’s family<br />

<strong>Christmas</strong> ga<strong>the</strong>r<strong>in</strong>g certa<strong>in</strong>ly<br />

r e f l e c t ed t h e vi b r an t<br />

atmosphere of <strong>the</strong> current<br />

preschool community. There<br />

was a strong sense of<br />

camaraderie with families,<br />

children and staff all m<strong>in</strong>gl<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong><br />

a buzz<strong>in</strong>g, party atmosphere.<br />

“It is always a highlight of <strong>the</strong><br />

year when all participants of our<br />

preschool whanau get toge<strong>the</strong>r<br />

to share, streng<strong>the</strong>n friendships<br />

and celebrate our wonderful<br />

children and <strong>the</strong>ir families,” said<br />

a Darfield Preschool and<br />

Nursery spokesperson.<br />

Toy Library reopens<br />

Santa at 11am with morn<strong>in</strong>g tea <strong>in</strong> between.<br />

child if you wish.<br />

The Toy Library will run an hour longer till 12:30<br />

to allow Kirwee members to attend both sessions.<br />

Zita Bezuidenhout and Lisa<br />

Bowater of Rolleston are <strong>the</strong><br />

co-ord<strong>in</strong>ators of a new support<br />

group for people experienc<strong>in</strong>g<br />

breast cancer <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Selwyn<br />

area.<br />

Zita, married with two daughters<br />

and three grandchildren, was<br />

diagnosed with breast cancer <strong>in</strong><br />

May 2012. S<strong>in</strong>ce her diagnosis,<br />

she has met a number of<br />

women <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> area who've also<br />

experienced breast cancer and<br />

felt she could offer some<br />

support to o<strong>the</strong>rs by start<strong>in</strong>g<br />

this group.<br />

Lisa, also married with two<br />

children, lost her mo<strong>the</strong>r to<br />

breast cancer seventeen<br />

months ago and has o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

family members also suffer<strong>in</strong>g<br />

from <strong>the</strong> disease.<br />

Beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> January 2015, <strong>the</strong><br />

group will meet on <strong>the</strong> last<br />

Thursday of each month. These<br />

meet<strong>in</strong>gs will provide an<br />

opportunity for women and<br />

men, who have had a recent, or<br />

past, diagnosis of breast cancer<br />

Lisa Bowater and Zita Bezuidenhout of <strong>the</strong> newly formed<br />

Selwyn Breast Cancer Support Group.<br />

to meet, share experiences over<br />

a cu pp a, an d receive<br />

<strong>in</strong>formation and advice. There<br />

will also be guest speakers and<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r activities of <strong>in</strong>terest.<br />

The group will be set up with<br />

help from Breast Cancer<br />
