Dr. Nitsana Spigland has been appointed to the position of Chief of Pediatric Surgery and
Pediatric Trauma at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. She plays an
active role in education as the associate director of medical student education for the Department
of Surgery. Dr. Spigland is board certified in both general surgery and pediatric
surgery. She specializes in complex neonatal congenital malformaties, pediatric thoracic
surgery, pediatric surgical oncology and advanced minimal access surgery. A graduate of
New York Medical College, Dr. Spigland completed her general surgery residency at Lenox
Hill Hospital, NY, and her fellowship in pediatric surgery at St. Justine’s Children’s Hospital,
in Montreal, Canada. She has authored or co-authored numerous publications in peerreviewed
journals, and serves as an ad hoc reviewer for the American Journal of Perinatology,
the Journal of Pediatric Surgery and the Annals of Thoracic Surgery. Dr. Spigland is a
fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Pediatric Surgical
Associations, the Canadian Pediatric Surgical Association, the New York Surgical Society
and the Children’s Cancer Study Group.
