Blackout prevention system (BPS)<br />

• Modern diesel electric vessels are dependent on having power available<br />

on switchboard in order to have propulsion power.<br />

• A blackout on switchboard will cause vessel to be out of control<br />

• Small faults in the electrical system can cause blackout in some conditions<br />

• It can in some case be difficult to detect these faults and take the right<br />

actions in a millisecond time range to avoid blackout<br />

• Typical black out reasons can be:<br />

‐ AVR failure<br />

‐ Over speed / under speed<br />

‐ Over voltage / under voltage‐ Overload<br />

‐ Back power<br />

‐ Power supply
