<strong>The</strong> Halifax <strong>Shipping</strong> Association is an organization representing various<br />

stakeholders including ocean carriers, shipping agents, stevedoring<br />

companies, terminal operators, contractors, as well as general service<br />

providers and port users operating within the Port <strong>of</strong> Halifax.

government. A major goal <strong>of</strong> the Association is to<br />

increase both public and private sector awareness as<br />

to the vital and valuable role <strong>of</strong> marine transportation<br />

in Canada’s continued economic prosperity.

<strong>The</strong> Atlantic Pilotage Authority (APA) is a<br />

Federal Crown Corporation responsible for<br />

providing marine pilotage service to<br />

Atlantic Canada.<br />

Halifax ‐ In 2009, 3,109 assignments were<br />

conducted by the Authority’s 10 pilots for<br />

Halifax (34% <strong>of</strong> total assignments for<br />

Atlantic Canada).<br />
