Dear Friends,
I think we can all agree that 2008 was a challenging year. The
economic downturn affected us all. Our lives were impacted at
work and at home and in ways we probably never anticipated.
At the same time when folks are cutting back to make ends
meet or setting aside more to prepare for the unexpected, the
needs of others in our community grow even greater. While
the tough times are hard on everyone, they are especially
difficult for those less fortunate.
So in many respects, 2008 was a remarkable year at the
Foundation. We had the opportunity to work with incredibly
generous individuals and businesses that stepped up to help
when help was needed most. And despite the market
downturn, we were still able to invest nearly $1,800,000 in
grants back into our community.
Through the continuing generosity and selflessness of our
donors, we were able to write many great success stories – a
few of which are highlighted in this annual report. These
stories demonstrate how we were able to reach out, lift up,
provide hope and make a difference in the lives of the people
of Porter County.
Thanks to all of you, the Foundation continues to enhance
lives in Porter County today, tomorrow and forever.
