Since 1991, the Intelligent Transportation Society of America has
been the foremost advocate for the development and deployment
of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in the U.S. Our members
include private corporations, public agencies, academic institutions
and research centers, and while our members have diverse interests,
they share a common goal: to improve the safety, mobility,
and economic and energy efficiency of the nation’s transportation
system through the deployment of ITS.
Who are ITS America’s
What are Intelligent
Transportation Systems
Intelligent Transportation Systems encompass a broad
range of wireless and wire line communications,
information processing, advanced computing and
electronics technologies. When integrated into the
transportation system, and in vehicles themselves,
these technologies help reduce congestion, enhance
mobility options and save lives.
A short list of ITS technologies includes:
❚ Advanced Traffic Management Systems
❚ Advanced Traveler Information Systems
❚ Automatic Vehicle Location Systems
“ Ironically, many drivers
rescued from floodwaters
report that they were in
a hurry to get home—to
safety—as the reason for
attempting to drive through
a flooded roadway. With
greater visibility through
ITS America, we look
forward to educating
communities and promoting
the benefits of road weather
information systems.”
Members Say…
“ The connection with private
sector providers and
consultants is invaluable
for our programs. ITS
America also offers great
opportunities for our student
exposure to complicated
ITS applications.”
“The ITS America Conference
in Houston, Texas, May
2010 provided CSC with
an opportunity to meet with
other ITS companies and
clients who will implement ITS
programs. The networking
and thought leadership
exchanges were invaluable.”
“ Motorist safety and mobility
are the top priorities in my
department at AAA, so the ITS
America focus on deployment of
technologies to improve safety
and mobility are important to
me. I think getting the average
person to recognize the benefits
gained through technology is
a big challenge, so our collective
efforts to talk about how ITS
solves transportation problems
is of value.”
