<strong>Law</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>International</strong><br />

The LL.M. in <strong>Natural</strong> <strong>Resources</strong> <strong>Law</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>International</strong> <strong>Environmental</strong> <strong>Law</strong> at the<br />

Faculty of <strong>Law</strong>, University of Icel<strong>and</strong>, is a<br />

new specialised Masters-Program in law<br />

created for students from around the world<br />

who have reached a relatively high st<strong>and</strong>ard<br />

in their basic legal education, corresponding<br />

to a law degree after at least three years of<br />

law studies (BA-degree in <strong>Law</strong>) <strong>and</strong> want<br />

to focus on legal rules relating to natural<br />

resources <strong>and</strong> issues of environment or<br />

resource management in an international<br />

<strong>and</strong> European perspective. The Program is<br />

conducted exclusively in English.<br />

The LL.M. Program is inspired by Icel<strong>and</strong>’s<br />

unique natural setting <strong>and</strong> legal history<br />

within the field of natural resources law. It<br />

is furthermore built on the law Faculties’<br />

strengths, in fields of law using renewable<br />

energy, in particular generating electricity<br />

from geothermal <strong>and</strong> hydroelectric power <strong>and</strong><br />

in the field of fisheries management, as well<br />

as in the field of international environmental<br />

law. The Program is organized in such a<br />

way as to provide in-depth analysis in the<br />

specialised fields of natural resources <strong>and</strong><br />

international environmental law combined<br />

with an ample opportunity for participants to<br />

experience the natural wonders <strong>and</strong> beauty<br />

of Icel<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> its culture.<br />

The Program consists of 45 credits (90 ECTS),<br />

including a final paper which counts for 15<br />

credits (30 ECTS). It is a one-year Program<br />

beginning in September <strong>and</strong> providing<br />

participants with the opportunity to submit<br />

their final papers in August the next year.<br />

The Faculty of <strong>Law</strong><br />

The Faculty of <strong>Law</strong> at the University of<br />

Icel<strong>and</strong> is the leading center of legal<br />

education <strong>and</strong> research in the country. It is<br />

the oldest <strong>and</strong> largest law faculty celebrating<br />

its hundredth year anniversary in 2008.<br />

Almost all Icel<strong>and</strong>ic treatises <strong>and</strong> textbooks<br />

future. The newly organized LL.M. program<br />

in natural resources <strong>and</strong> international<br />

environmental law forms an integral part of<br />

this exciting <strong>and</strong> ambitious project.<br />

ORATOR, the students’ association was<br />

established in 1928. All students at the<br />

Faculty of <strong>Law</strong> can be members. The<br />

association organizes seminars, conferences<br />

<strong>and</strong> excursions as well as running a very<br />
