Peace by Youth (PY)
Background Information:
Peace by Youth (PY) is a non-profit organization, registered under Agencies
Registration and Control Ordinance 1961 (XIVI of 1961) with the idea to empower
and encourage young people for Decision making in all fields of life, Youth
Development, Capacity Building, Poverty Alleviation, Rural Development, Public
Library and Health Services in Pakistan. Peace by Youth (PY) is working in District
Jacobabad, with a great spirit of empowering Youth. The Youth empowerment
belongs to attitudinal, structural, and cultural process where young people gain
ability, and authority to make decisions and power of implementing change in their
own lives.

PY works on youth power and social mobilization, including a campaign against
social violation and advocacy; health care; revolving funds and skills training, relief
and humanitarian aid as well as conducting seminars and publishing Awarenessraising
materials.
As primary constituency of the organization is concerned, this is based upon young
male and female people at grassroots level.

PY has ability of implementing youth empowerment programs that address
pertinent issues relating to the development of young people. PY works with
different youth groups to improve their capacity, to work efficiently through
organizational development, to maintain continuity and also function effectively. PY
focuses on transferring management skills to beneficiary communities and has won
the confidence of large number of stakeholders living in the target area by
employing a participatory approach.
Pakistan Flood 2010.
District Jacobabad:
District Jacobabad is one of the worst floods affected District of the province Sindh during
the monsoon flood of 2010 Pakistan. The flood has affected approximately whole district
with different intensity. Tehsil Thul & Garhi Khairo of Jacobabad District is damaged by
flood with high intensity. According to Government revenue department 13 union councils
of Jacobabad out of 40 have been affected by the flood. 62% villages had faced severe
damage of the flood. During flood 256,751 Acres land and 148,621 people affected.
Among this population, 83% is rural population and 17% population belongs to urban
area. Flood severely affected.
Peace by Youth (PY) in Pakistan Flood 2010.
Highlights;
Peace by Youth has been involved in relief phase
of flood affected community during flood in
September 2010. PY provided relief assistance in
flood, provided help in support for health
initiatives, tents, logistic support and first aid to
flood affected people during flood in Jacobabad
District. When the worst flood hit district
Jacobabad, it was very critical situations to
handle. Peace by Youth, with its energetic team
members and volunteers contributed to shift
people, provided help and support.
Health;
Peace by Youth (PY) has provided basic health support to approx 23,000 IDPs, during flood
in District Jacobabad, with the help of Volunteer group of Doctors. In September 2010, PY
has helped approx 6500 patients of Skin diseases, diarrhea, and Malaria. Soon this number
has increased with worst cases, and Peace by Youth continues to help.
Tents;
Peace by Youth provided 2100 tents, with the support of local and international nongovernmental
organizations to the IDPs during the flood in District Jacobabad. Peace by
Youth members and volunteers supported flood effected community, installed and pitched
tents with its highly experienced team.

Rehabilitation; Transitional Shelters
Peace by Youth contributed its efforts for the rehabilitation of flood affected people of
district Jacobabad, with the support of INGOs. PY provided 3200 T-Shelters to two Union
Councils of District Jacobabad.

Assessment or registration and Construction of T-Shelters:
Peace by Youth completed its assessment phase in short period, and started to construct T-Shelters in the
affected areas.

Water, Sanitation, and
Hygiene (WASH)
Peace by Youth has worked on Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene promotion in the selected
areas of district Jacobabad. Peace by Youth (PY) did activities for the provision of clean and
healthy water, how to prevent from diseases, and did activities for the hygiene and
sanitation promotion in 3 union councils of district Jacobabad.
Peace by Youth (PY) was involved in WASH activities with its social and technical teams;
With social team, PY members and volunteers did male and female sessions, and
distributed hygiene kits. Approx 5753 Male, 8342 Female participants has participated in
different sessions, and 450 Hygiene kits distributed in selected villages.
Technical team has contributed as 1320 Handpump Repairing (Major, Minor), 21 New
Drilling, 22390 ft Pipeline, Construction of Handpump Apron, Construction of Animal
Trough, Construction of 18 Bathing Space, Construction of 19 Laundry Space, Construction
of 2 Water Storage Tank, Installing of 920 New Handpump machine, and installing of 2
New Motors.

One Room Shelter
Peace by Youth (PY) has contributed in the rehabilitation of flood affected communities by
providing approx 200 One Room Shelter per family. PY has proved itself as a big
contributor in human resource and technical team provision with its members and
volunteers.
Financial System
Peachtree;
Peace by Youth (PY) using Peachtree financial and accounting management software
to maintain fiscal records, PY also developed its own additional financial and
Human resources management information system applications to support
Peachtree. All vouchers are computer generated and recorded. Current financial
management of Peace by Youth has capacity to manage small and large grants. PY
also has NTN and practicing tax deduction at financial sources.

Funding appeal
One Room Shelter;

Per Shelter
Peace by Youth (PY) is appealing for funding for its current projects
in District Jacobabad. PY assessed the current situations, and
observed that it’s very urgent to provide One Room Shelter for flood
affected communities, which costs US$ 1400 per Shelter.
Eid Gift;
US$ 200
Per Family
Peace by Youth (PY) plans to give smile on the faces of flood
affected people of Pakistan by giving them an Eid Gift on this Eid. It
contains 5 Kg Wheat Floor, 5 KG Sugar, 2 KG Cooking Oil, Dates,
Kids Gift, Shoes (M/F), 5 Packet Vermicellies, Milk, and little more.
This, give them smile in this rehabilitation process. This Eid gift costs
US$200 per family.
Livelihood;

Per Family
Peace by Youth (PY) is working on rehabilitation process of flood
affected communities in district Jacobabad. Livelihood is main
source of income in the region, so PY is working on providing
livelihood (2 Goats, 6 Hens) per family. It costs US$250.
Clean Water (Hand pump) Project;

Per Hand pump
Peace by Youth (PY) worked on providing clear water to the flood
affected communities. So we wish to continue this process in future
to provide clean and clear water by providing Hand pumps in worst
affected areas, it costs US$ 450 per Hand pump with apron.
