<strong>Woodland</strong> <strong>Plants</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Credit</strong> <strong>River</strong> <strong>Watershed</strong><br />

<strong>Plants</strong> of sou<strong>the</strong>rn Ontario forests are not only beautiful, but<br />

essential <strong>to</strong> ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> diversity and health of our forests.<br />

They support wildlife from small <strong>in</strong>sect poll<strong>in</strong>a<strong>to</strong>rs <strong>to</strong> larger wildlife<br />

dependent on <strong>the</strong>m as a direct food source. Many non-native<br />

plants, which have been <strong>in</strong>troduced, simply do not provide <strong>the</strong><br />

same ecological benefits. Year-round, <strong>the</strong>se forest plants provide an<br />

endless display of colour from spr<strong>in</strong>g (ephemeral) flowers and late<br />

season bloomers <strong>to</strong> perennially graceful ferns.<br />

But, all is not well as threats from development and o<strong>the</strong>r human<br />

activities are affect<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> health of our forests. Some of <strong>the</strong>se<br />
