It‟s never too late to teach your child good old-fashioned manners. Being aware of appropriate
you appear trustworthy and approachable. Find out how to go about instilling this life-skill in your
child.
Presenter: Ann Cawood – Social Worker/School Counsellor B.A (S.W.) Hons.
It is extremely challenging for parents to achieve the balance between showing children empathy
and affirmation and allowing them to learn to solve their own problems – age-appropriately. Resilience
is an essential ingredient in today‟s challenging and stressful world. The relevant underlying
issues will be discussed – as well as opportunities to share effective skills and strategies.
S E N I OR PR E P MATTERS!
Welcome back after an
enjoyable holiday,
during which the
weather was on our
side! We are sure this
will be a lucrative,
successful and enriching
term.
On Friday, 22 July we
honoured our top
academic achievers at
the Mid-Year Academics
Awards Assembly. We
congratulate the pupils
who were awarded
Merit Certificates and
Academic Badges. We
also congratulate the
pupils who received the
Achievement Award for
the best-improved
overall aggregate from
Term One to Term Two.
We are very proud of
every one of you!
Parents had the
opportunity to meet
with the teachers at the
Parent-Teacher Liaison
meetings on 19 and 20
July. If you were unable
t o a r r a n g e
appointments to meet
with your child’s
teachers, you may still
do so via Shannon at
Reception.
We encourage parents
to ensure that pupils are
at school in time for
registration with the
tutor teachers. This is
when information is
brought to pupils’
attention and recorded
in the diaries for your
attention. Pupils who
arrive late disrupt this
important first period
with the tutor teacher.
These pupils must also
report to Lee to collect
late slips on arrival at
school.
All Grade 6 pupils
attending IEB schools in
South Africa wrote the
IEB Core Skills tests on
Friday. These tests are
skills-based tests,
assessing interpretation,
understanding and
ability to think
d i v e r g e n t l y a n d
creatively. Needless to
say, some pupils really
enjoyed addressing this
open-ended type of
question paper. We
trust that our 2011
pupils are as successful
as our pupils from
previous years.
must be brought to
school for collection on
a Wednesday. Our
weekly Cake Sales will
also be on a Wednesday
from Term Three.
From Term Three choir
practice is on a
Thursday morning.
The pupils are to be
commended on their
enthusiasm every week
in support of Sarmie and
newspaper recycling.
The Inter-House winners
of the drive are allowed
to wear civvies to school
as a reward. The pupils
are told when this
civvies day happens. The
senators motivate the
pupils during Friday’s
assembly about specific
collections and drives.
We do appreciate your
support in our many
‘Give Back’ projects.
NEW STAFF
We welcome Ms Susan
Studies Department. It is
good to see this friendly
face on our campus
more often. Ms Valerie
French classes till the
end of the year. The pupils
are enjoying her lessons!
S P O RT S REPORT
Senior Primary
Sport commenced with great enthusiasm on the 2nd day of term and has gone very well with the commencement of our 1 st
matches this past week.
A list of the week’s matches is put up on the notice board in the entrance passage, every week on a Monday morning before
school. If your child is playing in a match, he or she will always be given a match letter informing you of the detail.
The list of fixtures in the ‘Term Three Calendar booklet’, do at times change. The Girls Soccer fixtures are supposed to be
played on a Friday but we try to arrange to play them on a Tuesday or a Thursday, their practice days, where possible.
If sport is cancelled due to weather, the pupils will always be looked after in the teacher’s classroom, for the duration of the
practice. We remind you that pupils may phone their parents, on the school phone, if they arrive back at school early or late
from their match.
Sport Clothing
Pupils must have the correct attire for practices as well as matches. For all sports the pupils must wear proper sport tackies
(no school shoes or fashion tackies), or in the case of soccer, preferably soccer boots. Rugby is played barefoot.
For their own safety in Hockey & Soccer, pupils must have shin guards.
Gum guards are essential in Hockey & Rugby.
U/13 vs Oranjekloof
The U13 played Oranjekloof and lost 7-2. Half time score was 3-1.
The girls learnt a valuable lesson about recovering quickly from mistakes, defending a quick attack and not allowing the
defenders to distract them whilst shooting. Fitness also played a valuable role for the duration of the game. Oranjekloof has
superior ball handling skills and moved quickly around the court.
Lady of the match: Hannah Wiltshire for her on going determination and willingness to win. She was an example to all as
to how to give of your best for an entire game, even when the chips are down.

The athlete's oath was introduced at these games by founder Eunice Shriver at the
