2007 er allerede godt i gang. Påsken
står snart for tur.
planlegge aktivitetene framover.
drøye to måneder til landstreff i Østfold
Stort
men noen faller bort.
tilsendt som ennå gjelder for 9 måneder.
Importen fortsetter
ebay.fr.
to SM’er – snart. Skal hente denne i
Frankrike i april.
SeMantics “Moors and Dales”
International Citroen SM Meeting in
Yorkshire Thursday 31 st May to
Sunday 3 rd June 2007.
SeMantics invites you to explore with them
England’s biggest county, a beautiful landscape
of wild moors and rugged coastline, a land
divided into three ‘Ridings” - the word derives
from the Old English “thriding”, which in turn
came from the old Norse word meaning a
“third”. Time will only allow us to visit part of
this vast county so we will be staying just outside
the ancient city of York and will be exploring the
North York Moors.
The programme:
THURSDAY 31 st May - an optional early arrival at
the hotel to have a meal with the other participants.
FRIDAY 1 st June 2007. – a day travelling by coach to
explore the delights of York
(www.visityork.org/mustseeyork). The timing for this
visit to York will allow for those participants arriving
that morning by ferry into nearby Hull to drive to the
hotel and join the group. York is a compact medieval
city, sitting within an ancient city wall, and all of the
main attractions are within easy walking distance of
each other. A day pass will be provided to give you
access to places such as York Minster, York Castle
Museum with its Victorian street, Fairfax House,
Merchant Adventurers’ Hall, the Treasurer’s House,
Clifford’s Tower, York Brewery Tour and many other
places of interest. In addition to all this there are the
narrow medieval streets such as The Shambles, where
people can shake hands across the street in the upper
storey of the buildings and you could enjoy the shops
and restaurants. Your pass will also allow you to enjoy
a river cruise and there are other attractions you can
visit at additional cost if you wish. We have not
included lunch but there is an impressive choice of
eateries, offering everything from a sandwich and
drink through to a full three-course meal.
Our coach will return us to the hotel in the late
afternoon for dinner in the evening.
Saturday 2 nd June 2007 - in the morning we will
drive north into the North York’s Moors through some
lovely villages and countryside full of contrasts and we
will visit the Ryedale Folk Museum
(www.ryedalefolkmuseum.co.uk) in Hutton le Hole,
where you can see how life was lived in and around
the Moors in times past. We have arranged lunch at the
Milburn Arms Hotel in Rosedale, which is a short
drive from Hutton le Hole. After lunch we will drive
up to Whitby (www.whitby-uk.com), one of the few
places in the world where Jet, a semi-precious stone
which was popular for jewellery in Victorian times, is
found and worked. Whitby is also the place where the
novelist Bram Stoker chose for Count Dracula’s first
appearance. If you can brave the steps you could walk
up to Whitby Abbey (www.englishheritage.org.uk/whitbyabbey)
in its spectacular
position overlooking the port of Whitby.
After returning to the hotel in the late afternoon, we
will leave by coach in the evening for a Gala Night
dinner amongst the carriages and locomotives in the
National Railway Museum (www.nrm.org.uk) in
York, the biggest museum of its kind in the world.
Sunday 3 rd June 2007. In the morning we will drive
to Castle Howard (www.castlehoward.co.uk), one of
the most impressive stately homes in the United
Kingdom and featured in many films and television
series, most notably ‘Brideshead Revised”. The House
was designed by John Vanbrugh for Charles Howard,
the 3 rd Earl of Carlisle and building started in 1699 and
it is still owned and occupied by the Howard family.
You will be able to visit the house at your own pace
where guides, some in period costume, will be able to
tell you about the house and its history. The
impressive gardens, with wonderful views, are also
worth exploring at your leisure.
We will leave Castle Howard late morning for the
short drive to Hovingham for a farewell Lunch at the
Worsley Arms.
For those who want to stay on in the area there is much
more to see and do in Yorkshire.
Some suggestions for the afternoon are:
Helmsley Village, Helmsley Castle and Duncombe
Park, Rievaulx Abbey, Rievaulx Terrace and Temples,
Nunnington Hall all within easy travelling distance of
Hovingham.
Referat fra FICCSM Møte
Den 17. februar 2007 ble det avholdt møte i
FICCSM ved Mercure Hotell. Vår klubb er
en del av dette integrerte samarbeidet mellom
flere Citroën SM klubber i Europa. Citroën
SM Klubb Norge var dessverre ikke
representert på dette møtet i år. Våre
aktiviteter er etter anmodning fra FICCSM
rapportert inn i etterkant.
arbeid for å få reprodusert deler. Flere deler
The meeting was chaired by Adrian Furtado who started the meeting by speaking on behalf of the
Italian club, which was not able to send a representative this year (for the first time).
The SM Club Italia had 46 members at the end of 2006 and now already has 52, an increase of 6.
The annual subscription is 130€ which includes a full subscription to the SM Club de France of
80E. This entitles all members to order their own parts direct from the French club.
Two rallies are planned, the first on 5/6 May around Lago Maggiore, including a visit to Stresa and
some islands. The second is on 30 September or 7 October at Buseto (near Parma), being the
birthplace of the opera composer Giuseppe Verdi.
15 to 17 August 2008 the 14 th ICCCR will take place on the Vallelunga circuit near Rome, further
details at www.icccr2008.com.
Next Paul Artaud spoke on behalf of the French club as he had to leave early for another meeting.
He announced that the French national rally will take place at Tulle in Correze on 8/9 September,
as well as 7 other regional rallies in various parts of France. In addition to Retromobile, the club
will be displaying at least an SM at four other classic car shows, sometimes joined by another
Citroen model, contemporary with the SM. Paul confirmed that in 2007 the French club had taken
and re-confirmed its decision to charge other SM clubs which order parts for their members the
sum of 30€ per member of the club, starting in 2007 (see also P. Fraleux/A. Furtado below).
Peter Snoeker spoke on behalf of the Dutch club. 8 or 9 meetings are held per year and the club
magazine, Subliem is published 3 or 4 times per year, depending on the amount of material
available. He commented on a growing problem in Holland, which is the decreasing number of
specialist SM garages.
Hans Roellin represented the Swiss club and announced that his cousin, Urs Morach, also
present, has now become Treasurer. He was also proud to announce a new club website
www.citroensmclub.ch. As usual, there will be spring and autumn rallies as well as monthly
meetings near Zurich. The subscription is currently 100 Swiss Francs, approximately 60€.
Hans announced that the 2008 International Meeting will be in Switzerland from 2 to 4 May based
at Stein am Rhein.
Next Adrian Furtado welcomed Marc Roelandt, President of the DS/SM Club Belgium, this
being the first participation of the Belgian club in the activities of the IFCCSM. The club mainly
has DS owners as members, but there are about 16 SMs owned by club members, including Marc
SM BULLETIN NR 17 - MARS 2007

Side 8
Roelandt, who obtained his SM in 2003. 5 to 6 SMs are regularly seen at club events and it is
hoped that a similar number will participate in the 2007 international rally at York. The club
subscription is 35€ and the club publishes a calendar and 4 magazines per year.
Ruleman Erkenswick, spoke on behalf of the German club. The current membership of 258, own
between them about 300 SMs. There is another, small SM club in Germany with about 20
members. The main rally of the year will take place in October over three days and include visits to
Wartburg, Eisenach, Weimar and Dresden, where there will be a visit to the opera house. The club
will also be present at 3 classic car shows. The subscription is currently 120€.
Brian Cass, Chairman of SeMantics, next explained the arrangements for the international rally at
York, taking place this year from 31 May to 3 June. Participants can arrive on Thursday 31 May or
early on Friday 1 June (for example via the overnight ferry to Hull) and then benefit from a full
day in York, travelling by coach between the hotel and the city since York is not suitable for SMs.
The Saturday will be spent touring the beautiful North Yorkshire moors and the main Sunday
programme is a visit to the impressive stately home Castle Howard, after which the farewell lunch
will take place at Hovingham. Brian spent time advising on the best routes to the north of England
for those not wishing to drive too far on the wrong side of the road. First recommendation is a ferry
to Hull, next is Harwich. Dover involves a longer and more difficult route around London.
Full details and booking form via Brian Cass (brian.cass1@btinternet.com) or
www.semantics.uk.com, which will permit online payment via PayPal. The booking deadline is 16
April 2007.
Pierre Fraleux and Adrian Furtado then discussed with the other participants the implications of
the decision by the SM Club de France: to charge any SM club which orders parts via its president
the sum of 30€ per member (who is not already a member of the French club) per year starting in
2007. It was explained that at present the French club members bear the entire cost of running the
parts service, which includes overheads of rental and maintenance of the large parts warehouse and
insurance for the parts and contents. The club has reached the point where the stock of original
parts bought from Citroen in 1988 has diminished to the point where a significant number of key
SM parts now need to be remanufactured. This involves high setup costs, because of the tooling
required. At the last meeting of the Conseil in December 2007, after the AGM, Adrian Furtado
proposed, and the Conseil agreed unanimously, to release in principle the savings of the SM Club
de France to help solve this problem. The sum available, subject to approval of the club’s part
committee for each new project, is up to 250,000€. In the light of this, the request of the club to
receive 30€ per year per member of clubs ordering parts via its President is modest: the 3 clubs
involved (Germany, Holland and Switzerland) have a total membership of around 490 which could
not contribute more than 15,000€ per year.
It is acknowledged that these clubs find themselves in an awkward position vis a vis their
members. The presidents involved undertook to study the situation and seek a solution.
Comments on paying the 30€ parts contribution.
There are at least three possible solutions to this funding request:
1. Each president can stop ordering parts and any member wanting to get parts from the
French club can join the French club, as is done by the English etc.
SM BULLETIN NR 17 - MARS 2007

Side 9
This way, each new, foreign member of the French club will personally contribute to the
running of the French club’s parts service, by his one-time joining fee and annual
subscription.
2. The president can add a markup to the price charged for the parts obtained from the French
club, thus obtaining the amount of money required only from his members who directly
benefit from the French parts service, leaving the other members unaffected.
3. The subscription can simply be increased by 30€ for all members, regardless of their use of
the parts service, as was done by the Italian club when it added the full SM Club de France
subscription of 80€ to its own subscription.
After the meeting, most participants dined together in the restaurant of the Hotel Mercure, as usual.
