Workshop Description<br />

Hey! My Brain Doesn't Work That Way!<br />

Understanding Sensory Processing<br />

and Self Regulation<br />

Understand 9 of the senses<br />

Learn more about Sensory Processing, how it<br />

changes from person to person, and how it<br />

affects how we feel and how we act<br />

How to identify and meet a child’s sensory needs<br />

based on Neurological Threshold Continuum<br />

Understand the human stress response system<br />

and it’s impact on learning, behaviour, & function<br />

Teaching Self Regulation (the Alert Program) and<br />

how this differs from “emotional regulation”<br />

Using sensory and motor input to manage levels<br />

of arousal - Sensory Diet<br />

Practical suggestions to help kids calm down<br />

Everyone has different sensitivities and sensory<br />

preferences. Sensory Processing is complex and<br />

individualized. Learn how sensory processing works<br />

and how we use sensory input to maintain our level<br />

of alertness. Discover how you can help children,<br />

through a sensory/motor approach, to be calm and<br />

alert.<br />

Marc Landry has worked as an occupational<br />

therapist for over 26 years. He has a private practice<br />

in and around Vancouver, where he provide<br />

OT services, workshops, and consultations. He<br />

most recently worked for Vancouver Coastal<br />

Health providing Occupational Therapy for children<br />

in Vancouver schools. He has always<br />

worked with children, in a variety of settings including<br />

public schools, preschools, families’<br />

homes, daycares, and institutions. Much of this<br />

experience was with children with autism and<br />

sensory processing disorders. He has also<br />

worked to educate OT’s, parents, caregivers, and<br />

other professionals.<br />
