BUSINESS COUNCIL OF BRITISH COLUMBIA APPOINTS HANK KETCHAM CEO OF WEST FRASER TIMBER<br />

AS NEW CHAIR AT 46 TH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING<br />

May 23, 2012 (Vancouver, BC) – On May 15 th , the Business Council of British Columbia appointed British<br />

Columbia Business Laure<strong>at</strong>e, <strong>Hank</strong> <strong>Ketcham</strong>, <strong>Chair</strong>man and Chief Executive Officer, West Fraser, as the<br />

new <strong>Chair</strong> of the Business Council for a two-year term.<br />

“I am honoured to have been appointed <strong>Chair</strong> of the Business Council of British Columbia,” <strong>Ketcham</strong><br />

said during his first address as <strong>Chair</strong>. “We need to work together as business, communities, first n<strong>at</strong>ions,<br />

environmentalists and governments to ensure we are leaving a sustainable and robust economy th<strong>at</strong><br />

supports our children and the kind of society we want.”<br />

“We do this to ensure we collectively share in prosperity through unlocking British Columbia’s full<br />

potential – and I am pleased to have the opportunity to work with all of you to reach this potential,”<br />

concluded <strong>Ketcham</strong>.<br />

The Business Council expressed their sincere appreci<strong>at</strong>ion to Graham MacLachlan, Regional President,<br />

BC, RBC Royal Bank who concluded his four year term as <strong>Chair</strong> of the Council and will continue on the<br />

Executive Committee as the Immedi<strong>at</strong>e Past <strong>Chair</strong>.<br />

“The Business Council is fortun<strong>at</strong>e to have a diverse and engaged membership of leading companies<br />

across the province in every key sector of the economy th<strong>at</strong> contribute on a daily basis to a strong,<br />

vibrant and growing British Columbia,” said Greg D’Avignon, President and CEO of the Business Council<br />

of British Columbia. “It is from this robust membership th<strong>at</strong> we draw such exceptional leaders as <strong>Hank</strong><br />

<strong>Ketcham</strong> and Graham MacLachlan. In the year ahead, we look forward to working with <strong>Hank</strong> and our<br />

new Board to build on our momentum by advancing policy and ideas aimed <strong>at</strong> driving a more innov<strong>at</strong>ive<br />

and competitive economy to the benefit of all British Columbians in every part of the province.”<br />

During the <strong>Annual</strong> General Meeting, the membership of the Business Council also appointed a new<br />

Executive Committee and Board of Governors. <strong>As</strong> reported by the outgoing <strong>Chair</strong>, the Business Council<br />

membership is now the largest in the history of the organiz<strong>at</strong>ion with 27 new member companies over<br />

the last year from across British Columbia’s major industries including mining, forestry, tourism, real<br />

est<strong>at</strong>e, retail, technology, professional services, transport<strong>at</strong>ion and infrastructure, educ<strong>at</strong>ion and<br />

energy.


The Business Council of British Columbia, now in its <strong>46th</strong> year as the premier business organiz<strong>at</strong>ion in<br />

BC, represents over 250 leading companies and enterprises in every key sector of the economy. Our<br />

membership, found throughout every region of BC, represents one quarter of all jobs in the province.<br />

Mr. Henry H. (<strong>Hank</strong>) <strong>Ketcham</strong> Biography<br />

<strong>Hank</strong> <strong>Ketcham</strong> is <strong>Chair</strong>man and Chief Executive Officer of West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd., a North American<br />

forest products company which employs approxim<strong>at</strong>ely 7,000 people in BC, Alberta and eight st<strong>at</strong>es in<br />

the southern United St<strong>at</strong>es. The integr<strong>at</strong>ed forest products company is one of the largest lumber<br />

producers in North America and also produces wood chips, LVL, MDF, plywood, pulp and newsprint.<br />

Mr. <strong>Ketcham</strong> started with West Fraser in 1973 and worked in various mill level and management<br />

positions. In 1985, Mr. <strong>Ketcham</strong> was elected President and Chief Executive Officer and in 1996 he was<br />

elected <strong>Chair</strong>man, President and Chief Executive Officer.<br />

In May of 2012, Mr. <strong>Ketcham</strong> was appointed <strong>Chair</strong> of the Business Council of British Columbia. He also<br />

serves on various boards including the BC Jobs and Investment Board, the Softwood Lumber Board, the<br />

Forest Products <strong>As</strong>soci<strong>at</strong>ion of Canada (FPAC), the Sustainable Forestry Initi<strong>at</strong>ive (SFI) and was the<br />

former <strong>Chair</strong>man of the Council of Forest Industries (COFI). Mr. <strong>Ketcham</strong> is also a Director of the<br />

Toronto-Dominion Bank.<br />
