allows students the opportunity to experience<br />

Our commitment to the Internship is at the core<br />
of the <strong>MA</strong> program, for it is designed to ensure<br />

classroom. <strong>The</strong> Internship provides a head start<br />
<strong>in</strong> the quest for mean<strong>in</strong>gful employment, as the<br />
experience has been the start<strong>in</strong>g po<strong>in</strong>t of many a<br />
successful career, as a student encounters valuable<br />
contacts and opportunities dur<strong>in</strong>g the placement.<br />

Dr Eunice Goes<br />

Dr Goes has taught politics and researched at different British and <strong>American</strong><br />
universities based <strong>in</strong> London, namely the LSE, the Royal Holloway College of<br />
the University of London, UCL, Ithaca College, amongst others.<br />
In parallel with her academic career, she has worked as a journalist. She started<br />
her journalistic career at “Diário Económico”, the Portuguese equivalent of the<br />
F<strong>in</strong>ancial Times <strong>in</strong> August of 1993, and between 1996 and 2007 she was the<br />
London correspondent to the Portuguese reference newspapers “Diário de<br />
Notícias” (until 2001) and “Expresso” (from 2001 until 2007). Dur<strong>in</strong>g this<br />
time, Dr Goes covered major events such as the 1997, 2001 and 2005 general<br />
elections, the creation of the Scottish Parliament, the terrorist attacks of 7/7 of<br />
2005, the Northern Irish Peace Process, race riots <strong>in</strong> England, art events,<br />
<strong>in</strong>terviewed British and European politicians, writers and artists.<br />
As an active member of the large foreign correspondent community based <strong>in</strong><br />
London, Dr Goes was elected to the Committee of the Foreign Press<br />
Association between 2002 and 2003. Dr Goes has contributed with articles to<br />
“<strong>The</strong> Independent”, www.opendemocracy.com. She collaborates with the BBC<br />
and is a regular guest <strong>in</strong> the BBC News program “Datel<strong>in</strong>e London”.<br />
Dr Goes research <strong>in</strong>terests lie <strong>in</strong> the areas of democracy, the <strong>in</strong>terplay between<br />
the media and political <strong>in</strong>stitutions, the role of ideas <strong>in</strong> policy-mak<strong>in</strong>g and<br />
multicultural citizenship.<br />
She is a Visit<strong>in</strong>g Research Fellow at the Portuguese Institute of <strong>International</strong><br />

Dr. Wolfgang Deckers is a Professor <strong>in</strong> <strong>International</strong> <strong>Relations</strong> and Political<br />
Science at <strong>Richmond</strong>. His research <strong>in</strong>terests <strong>in</strong>clude Ch<strong>in</strong>ese and<br />
German foreign policy and theories of <strong>in</strong>dustrialization.<br />
His publications <strong>in</strong>clude articles on self-reliance, Ch<strong>in</strong>ese foreign policy and<br />
the Green Party <strong>in</strong> Germany.
