DESIGN AND STYLE 

SAIL DESIGN BY EXPERIENCE 

Gun Sails sail designer Renato Morlotti ranks among 

the most experienced sail makers of the world. 

25 years ago, he began his career in an Italian sailmaking 

factory and learned this trade thoroughly. 

Renato gradually evolved his own styling details, 

developing unique and successful sail cuts, testing 

the products on the water as well as managing the 

production of the resulting sail ranges. 

Recentley, Renato has been designing the sails at the 

computer with special 3D software. This enables him 

to simulate different sail characteristics already in 

the stage of developing. This method has significantly 

advanced the development and proved to be extremely 

efficient. 

Renato Morlotti’s philosophy is simple and clear: 

“What kind of sail we want to build For sure the best 

we can. As close to the consumer’s needs as possible, 

easy to sail, easy to rig, stable and comfortable.”

Gun Sails 2007 – What’s new 

- Continuation of the 2006 appearance with use of new materials, multi 

directional Greytex and cross directional Whitex, two extremely 

durable and light x-ply versions 

- Use of x-ply material in the upper panel of the flat water sails, which 

significantly improves the durability of that zone, stressed by sail 

twisting and rolling up. 

- New mast sleeve material with a smooth surface structure eases 

insertion of the mast. The colour white is replaced by a cool grey in 

order to avoid a fast soiling of the sail. 

Additional features such as: 

- Convertible Comfort pulley, a trim block with large easy turning stainless 

brass rolls which greatly reduce the effort required for sail trimming, 

Thermofoam mast foot protector with small mesh pocket for 

ITB key or a safety line. The mini battens and the clew have been 

reengineered completely. 

The new features and materials give a distinctive character to our 

2007 sail line. 

Gun Sails 2007 stands for more quality, longer durability and highest 

performance.

SAIL FEATURES 

PVC tabs on the upper battens 

prevent wearing out and abrasion 

whilst rigging. 

For very easy packing away and 

storage: Just roll the sail up and 

fix the elastic retainer. 

The integrated Gun Sails triple 

pulley has large easy turning 

stainless brass rolls which greatly 

reduce the effort required for 

sail trimming. Also, if you prefer, 

the rolls are removable to allow 

the use of standard downhaul 

pulley hooks. 

The concave leech design reduces 

leech turbulences and avoids 

leech fluttering. 

The sail twisting is much more 

harmonic and the sail control 

much easier in strong winds. 

The Gun Sails logo that is sewn 

on the sleeve keeps it open 

at the boom opening area like 

a clip and thus mast insertion 

is much easier.

The ITB (Internal Trim Batten) 

system is completely integrated 

into the batten pocket. The fine 

tuning for an optimal trim can be 

done with the enclosed hexagon 

key. The profiled end piece offers 

additional protection against 

abrasion. 

The large Nylon reinforcement 

with attached PVC bordure at 

the sail top avoids abrasion. The 

vario top buckle is additionally 

covered with neoprene. 

A PVC edging from foot to the 

clew area protects the leech 

edge against your board’s nonslip 

coating. 

The large mast foot protector 

protects the mast and board. 

With the additional strap it is 

very easy to pull the sail over the 

mast. 

Small items like the ITB key or a 

safety line can be put in the inner, 

closable mesh pocket. 

On all the camless sails, the 

batten above the boom section 

is positioned on the opposite 

side of the sail. In this way, the 

sail becomes equally balanced on 

both sides, especially in the area 

with the most profile. 

It is inevitable, while inserting the 

mast, the mast tip rubs against 

the head seam of the sleeve. Gun 

Sails sails are equipped with an 

inner close weaved, smooth strap 

over the whole length of the inner 

head seam, this protects the 

seam and reduces the friction 

forces of the mast. 

On our camber sails, we use special 

ball or roller bearing cams 

for a soft rotation and easy mast 

insertion. 

Each camber has a special shape 

and diameter, well-adapted for 

its position and guarantees an 

optimum fitting. 

Intelligent X-Ply Mix. 

In order to guarantee longevity 

and stability optimums, we have 

focused our attention on an 

intelligent mixture of 5 different 

x-ply materials. 

All seams in the significantly 

stressed foot area are protected 

by Dacron coverings. 

In addition to this, a wide webbing 

is sewn along the edges 

to spare the lower material 

and the seams.

As a radical wave sail, the Hammer has to 

work in many different conditions while giving 

maximum performance. 

Good controllability, a well-balanced performance 

and immense durability are the key 

points of the Hammer. These characteristics 

make the sail ideal for all wave spots and varying 

waveriding styles. 

With its short boom length, lower weight than 

its previous model and the relatively flat profile, 

the Hammer shows great neutrality.

WAVE MC 

The power wave sail in our line up gives more 

power than the Hammer just when you need it. 

It is more adaptable for difficult onshore 

conditions and heavier riders who demand directness. 

The concave leech gives a distinctive 

twist which allows the Wave MC to cover an 

immensely wide wind range without loss of control; 

The Wave MC has a bit more dynamism 

than the Hammer. The extended boom and the 

deeper profile produce more low-end power and

TARGET

The crossover concept of the Target allows for 

fast planing, ambitious flat water moves or an 

occasional wave trip. 

The main characteristics of the sail are superb 

early planing, outstanding speed and it is extremely 

easy to use. 

The Target gibes very smoothly and with the 

slim mast sleeve, waterstarts are easy, a key 

point which will especially be appreciated by 

beginners and advanced. 

The ample use of x-ply in the main panel and all 

other Gun Sails sail features make the Target 

a very forgiving sail, which will come up to the 

expectations of beginners as well as maneuver

ALL TERRAIN FREERIDE 

The Nexus is the brand-new performance-oriented 

crossover sail in the Gun Sails sail family. 

Designed for the use in flat and choppy water 

conditions, it is the ideal sail for beginners and 

advanced as well as for maneuver-oriented 

freeriders. 

Our designer focused on the all terrain performance, 

high end speed and easy handling, 

which are the key characteristics of the Nexus. 

It has that bit more power in early planing and 

high end speed than the Target. 

The more maneuver-oriented sizes up to 5.6 

have 5 battens and a slightly higher leech, the 

bigger sizes with 6 battens and a deeper leech 

have more low end power and acceleration. 

The use of a RDM mast can provide better 

maneuverability. 

Its 100 % x-ply construction provides the sail 

with great stability and risky manoeuvres, 

jumps and overthrows are more easily forgiven.

EASY FREERIDE 

Easy handling, uncomplicated rigging and well 

balanced performance makes the Ride the perfect 

sail for windsurfing beginners and advanced 

surfers alike. The profile is less direct than a 

pure Freerider, which gives it a smooth and 

comfortable feeling, a very forgiving sail. 

Although the Ride’s weight was optimised for 

easy handling and effortless starting when 

up-hauling, we have not abandoned our solid 

construction philosophy. The Ride is equipped 

with all our standard sail features to protect it. 

A bonus for beginners and occasionally surfers 

will be the attractive price and mast recommendation. 

The Ride works very well with the 

“Advantage” mast line. Of course the rig’s 

weight and the performance can be optimised 

by using a higher carbon content mast.

FLASH 

PERFORMANCE FREERIDE 

As a freeride performer, the Flash is the fastest 

sail in the group of camless sails. 

It combines early planing, high end speed and 

easy handling. 

When pulling the sail tight, it guarantees full 

planing power and a stable performance in all 

conditions. 

The Flash becomes completely neutral in the 

hands, doesn’t react as direct as a freerace sail 

and feels a very forgiving sail. 

With just one trim setting, the sail covers a 

very wide wind range and you do not need to

Full profile, slim mast sleeve, 2 mini ball cams 

and a flatwater outline are the key points of this 

high performance freerider. 

Committed flat water racers will be enthused 

by the incredible top end speed, the centre of 

effort stability and the upwind characteristics. 

The smoothly rotating cams give the Tempo a 

constant profile, which easily gets you through 

the holes in low winds. 

The airfoil leech design with its distinctive loose

FREERACE PERFORMANCE 

The new Booster is a top end freeracer for the 

committed speed freak who prefers a super fast 

speed machine, but one which is easy to handle. 

You will find in the Booster to be the strongest 

planing power throughout the whole sail line. 

This is a result of the deep profile, supported 

by 3 cams and a deep low leech. The 7/4, 7/5 

batten concept (4 or 5 tubes) make the centre 

of effort stable, even in the strongest gusts. 

A dynamic mast sleeve design with best performance/handling 

ratio is guaranteed with the use 

of ball cams, designed in different sizes, which 

ensures control as well a significant easy rigging 

and waterstarting. Thanks to the harmonic 

shape of deep profile for extreme low end power 

and distinctive loose leech for comfort and controllability 

you will be able to cover an extremely 

wide wind range with one sail size only.

The Combibag provides a safe transit for sails and masts as a single unit. 

The mastbag can be securely fixed to the bottom of the sailbag with heavy

security and aerodynamics during transit.
