<strong>Enjoining</strong> <strong>Right</strong> & Forbidding Wrong - 52<br />

This is because Allah has ordered the believers to have faith <strong>and</strong> do good deeds, <strong>and</strong> has<br />

ordered them to call the people <strong>and</strong> struggle with them to bring about faith <strong>and</strong> the<br />

practice of good deeds. And Allah has promised them His aid in these pursuits. Allah said:<br />

[And Allah will certainly aid those who aid Him (i.e. His cause), <strong>and</strong> verily<br />

Allah is strong, mighty. Those who, if we empower them in the l<strong>and</strong> establish<br />

the prayer, pay the Zakat, enjoin all that is right, <strong>and</strong> forbid all that is <strong>wrong</strong>.<br />

And unto Allah is the end of all affairs.] Qur'an 22/41<br />

[Verily, we will support our prophets <strong>and</strong> those who believe in the life of this<br />

world, <strong>and</strong> on the day when the witnesses st<strong>and</strong> forth. (i.e. Qiyama)] Qur'an<br />

40/51<br />

[Allah has decreed: I will be victorious, my self <strong>and</strong> my prophets. Verily, Allah<br />

is strong, mighty.] Qur'an 58/21<br />

[Verily, our forces will vanquish them.] Qur'an 37/173<br />

Fear Of Falling Into Temptation As An Excuse For Neglecting <strong>Enjoining</strong> <strong>Right</strong><br />

<strong>Enjoining</strong> right <strong>and</strong> <strong>forbidding</strong> <strong>wrong</strong>, <strong>and</strong> fighting in the path of Allah (Jihad) contain<br />

severe tests <strong>and</strong> trials in which one is exposed to the risk of succumbing to various kinds of<br />

temptation. For this reason, a group appears among the people who cite their fear of these<br />

temptations as their excuse for avoiding that which has been made obligatory upon them<br />

claiming that they only seek safety from these temptations. Just as Allah said about the<br />

hypocrites:<br />

[Among them are he who says: Excuse me, <strong>and</strong> do not expose me to<br />

temptation. But, verily, they have already fallen for temptation.] Qur'an 9/49<br />

The scholars of tafsir (Qura'anic interpretation) have mentioned that this verse was<br />

revealed concerning a man named Al-Jadd ibn Qais when the Prophet (sallallahu `alayhi<br />

wa sallam) ordered him to prepare himself for the battle or Rum (The Romans). I believe<br />

the Prophet said to him: Do you have some problem with the women of the white folk Al-<br />

Jadd said: O, Prophet, there is no man as infatuated with women as myself, <strong>and</strong> I fear<br />

that, when I see the women of the white people, I may not be able to restrain myself. The<br />
