WOMEN’S WATER POLO <strong>2013</strong><br />
HEAD COACH RACHEL GRIEPSMA<br />
A new era of <strong>Grove</strong> <strong>City</strong> women’s water polo begins this year as Rachel Griepsma<br />
takes over as <strong>Grove</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>College</strong>'s head women's water polo coach.<br />
The <strong>College</strong> hired her in August 2012 as head women's water polo coach and assistant<br />
swimming and diving coach.<br />
Griepsma is the fourth head coach in program history, following Keith Bullion (2000-<br />
02), Dave Fritz (2002-09) and Jon Miller (2010-12).<br />
She joined the <strong>College</strong>’s Department of Physical Education and Athletics after spending<br />
the 2012 season as a graduate assistant coach at her alma mater, Mercyhurst University.<br />
Griepsma started from 2008 to 2011 for Mercyhurst’s women’s water polo team<br />
and compiled one of the finest careers in program history.<br />
She graduated as Mercyhurst’s all-time leading scorer with 246 goals, including an<br />
80-goal season in 2008.<br />
She earned Collegiate Water Polo Association Western Division First Team honors<br />
in all four of her seasons and twice earned Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches First Team All-America<br />
status.<br />
A native of Lindsay, Ontario, Griepsma also spent three seasons as the starting goalkeeper for Mercyhurst’s<br />
women’s soccer team. She compiled 22 wins and 16 shutouts in her career.<br />
Griepsma earned a bachelor of science degree in sports medicine (exercise science concentration) in 2011 at<br />
Mercyhurst. In summer 2012, she completed her master’s degree in exercise science at Mercyhurst.<br />
She lives in <strong>Grove</strong> <strong>City</strong>.<br />
