Solid Concepts can CNC machine
fixtures to ensure tolerances are met,
aid in part assembly, and assure
overall part quality.

CNC - A ROBUST SOLUTION
TO MANY PROTOTYPING &
PRODUCTION PROJECTS
Using state-of-the-art CNC software and equipment, Solid Concepts can
quickly machine prototypes, master patterns and finished parts directly from
your CAD data. We can machine virtually any engineering material – foam &
tooling board, plastic, and metals.
With extensive experience in CNC programming and manual machining, Solid
Concepts combines the best modern technology with hands-on experience to
provide an excellent finished piece at a great value. Whether you need a highly
accurate machined prototype for a functional test, a large prototype for a
customer presentation, or a short-run of finished parts, Solid Concepts has the
expertise and capacity to get the job done.
Master Patterns
The best possible castings start with the best possible master patterns.
While stereolithography (SLA) patterns are often selected when time is critical,
CNC master patterns offer increased accuracy and unlimited pattern life.
Parts & Prototypes
CNC parts and prototypes are ideal for situations where production materials
are required. CNC parts can be made from our standard materials or your
custom specified material. CNC prototypes are ideal when the part is subjected
to demanding functional tests, or the physical size of the parts make other
prototyping methods cost prohibitive. Solid Concepts’ CNC operations can take
on both small and large jobs, with single cut envelopes up to 8’ x 10’ x 4’.
Fixtures & Tools
Solid Concepts will manufacture CNC Fixtures and Tools to aid in part assembly
and quality inspection, whether you need the fixtures for your internal use or
you need Solid Concepts to use them for form and fit verification.
Short & Long Run Production
The quality that goes into our prototypes and master patterns can be duplicated
for your production parts. Solid Concepts has the capacity to quickly turnaround
your short-run production work and take on your long-run needs.
Some of the industries currently served by our CNC operations include:
• Aerospace
• Automotive
• Commercial
• Consumer
• Industrial
• Dental
• Surgical
• Medical Instruments
CNC
Solid Concepts is known for producing quality work
quickly – this holds true for our CNC products as well.
When you need parts quickly to get your project off the
ground, turn to Solid Concepts as a trusted supplier of
fast-turn CNC machine work.
We've become experts at breaking up complex
designs into multiple components that can be
reassembled into highly accurate master patterns.
Assembled CNC master patterns can be produced
on multiple machining centers so the patterns can be
completed in a fraction of the time normally required.
With assembled CNC master patterns, you not only
save time, but you also save money as material costs
decrease dramatically when you don’t require thicker
sheets of material. Accuracy is improved because we
will split the geometry in such a way as to eliminate
the need for complex setups.
Solid Concepts routinely uses CNC Master Patterns
for its’ QuantumCast Advanced Cast Urethane process.
Each CNC Master Pattern is finished with the required
texture (black A-side shown) prior to being casted.
The Medical Cart project below began as a CNC
Master Pattern, was prototyped as a QuantumCast Cast
Urethane, and is now in production through Solid
Concepts’ Tooling/Molding Group.
CNC Finishing Options
Solid Concepts doesn’t end the job when it comes off the machine.
We offer a variety of Finishing Options to ensure that your parts
are shipped ready for use:
Vapor Polishing – Proprietary process offered by Solid Concepts that puts an instant clear
finish on machined clear polycarbonate and other solvent bondable materials. While Vapor
Polishing does not produce a lens quality finish, you’ll get a rugged production material
with a great look.
Polishing – A hand process that significantly enhances clarity for clear machined parts or
significantly improves the surface finish on metal and opaque machined materials.
Anodizing – Increases the thickness of the natural oxide layer on the surface of metal parts
to improve corrosion and wear resistance. Anodizing also provides better adhesion for paint
primers and glues than bare metal.
Painting – Solid Concepts offers both Non-Cosmetic and Cosmetic Paint options. Paint is
typically applied to parts used for presentations, marketing studies, photography, mock-up
display models, and for production work. Cosmetic Paint is applied after hand finishing and
primer coat application to assure a high quality finish.
Chem Film – Chromate conversion coating can be applied to aluminum, zinc, cadmium,
copper, silver, tin, and their alloys to slow corrosion.
EMI/RFI Shielding – Protects electronic equipment placed in a plastic enclosure from
electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI). EMI/RFI Shielding
utilizes a nontoxic paint that contains silver, nickel, or copper for excellent conductivity.

Capacity is critical when your project is up
against a deadline. Solid Concepts has capacity in
machines, facilities, cutting envelopes, and in expert
personnel. With three of Solid Concepts’ U.S. facilities
running CNC operations and a total of 12 CNC machining
centers – we can put your project on the right machines with
the right expertise to give you a quality product on time.
Large Parts Expertise is a cornerstone of our CNC operation. Solid
Concepts consistently machines large parts and patterns – recently
machining 18‘ long patterns for bus panels. Large part expertise doesn’t
just come from having machines with a large cut envelope – it also comes
with the expertise to break up complex designs into multiple components
to be reassembled into highly accurate master patterns. Our large part work
includes interior and exterior mock-ups for the automotive industry and
fixtures for checking, inspection, assembly, and cubing.
Experience comes with a combined 40+ years of CNC Management expertise,
30+ years of CNC Programming experience, and 60+ combined years of Machinist
expertise. We’ve produced thousands of parts over the years. The knowledge
we’ve gained will be put to use when we examine your project. When appropriate,
we’ll suggest alternative manufacturing solutions that may save you time and
money, or produce a better product.
Speed isn’t a term you hear in the machining world – but it’s a familiar term
at Solid Concepts. We consistently provide the fastest quotes offered in the
industry for machined parts. Our production speeds are beyond compare –
with many machining jobs being programmed and started on a CNC center
the same day the order is received. Our customers expect fast turn-around
for their prototype parts, and we make sure that our CNC operations also
deliver consistently fast service.
Post Processing is a standard part of what Solid Concepts offers.
We won’t leave you with an unfinished part that you have to send out
for secondary operations. We offer anodizing, hand polishing,
helicoils, tapping, Vapor Polishing, and expert painting capabilities –
all in-house. Solid Concepts is your one-stop shop for impeccably
finished CNC parts.
Quality you can count on from the leading experts in the rapid
manufacturing industry. Whether you’re doing CNC work to
create master patterns, rugged prototypes, or limited-run
production work, Solid Concepts’ expert team is here to
help you get the job done right.
