Now that Louisiana has its own Family Voices Chapter and office, our Coordinators can more easily
address the biggest issues confronting the state's children with special health care needs and their
families: Obtaining health related services in the schools; dealing with decisions regarding medical
necessity; addressing problems with care coordination and welfare reform laws; and improving mental
health services. Helping Family Voices address these challenges are partners at the state Title
V/CSHCN agency, the Children's Hospital, Agenda for Children, MCH, the UAP, and the Academy of
Pediatrics. In the past year, more than 8,000 families in Louisiana received health information, 50
parents were mentored, and 40 parents received one-on-one support. Family Voices, along with
CSHCN and the AAP, has taken a leadership role in building partnerships to support a Medical Home
for children with special health care needs.
