Gender Differentials in State’s Expenditure on Secondary Education
The low enrollment rate of girls in secondary schools is reflected in the lower State
expenditure on girls for secondary education, of all expenditure on secondary education
(See Table-9). In the academic year 2004-2005, overall, Rs. 1,37,655.65 lakhs were
spent on secondary education. Of this, only 29.3% i.e. Rs 40,352.77 lakhs was spent
on girls’ education - this is even lower than the percentage expenditure of the State
on girls for primary education.
