Retirement Reception Honors Dr. Michael Reed’s<br />
Distinguished Career<br />
The <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dentistry</strong> hosted a retirement reception, Tuesday, August 30, <strong>2011</strong>, to honor Dr. Michael Reed’s exceptional service<br />
to the <strong>School</strong>, to dental education <strong>and</strong> to the dental pr<strong>of</strong>ession during his 26-year career at <strong>UMKC</strong>. Dozens <strong>of</strong> faculty <strong>and</strong><br />
staff turned out to show their appreciation <strong>and</strong> wish him well as he embarks on a new chapter is his life.<br />
In an email to the <strong>UMKC</strong> community announcing Dr. Reed’s retirement, Gail Hackett, Ph.D., <strong>UMKC</strong> executive vice chancellor <strong>and</strong><br />
provost, wrote: “You have guided our institution from 1985 to 2005 with uncommon courage <strong>and</strong> conviction, compassion <strong>and</strong><br />
concern, dedication <strong>and</strong> pride, energy <strong>and</strong> wisdom. The <strong>UMKC</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dentistry</strong>, the pr<strong>of</strong>ession <strong>and</strong> the communities they serve,<br />
thank you. We are all immeasurably better because <strong>of</strong> you.”<br />
The <strong>School</strong> invites you to help commemorate Dr. Reed’s accomplishments <strong>and</strong> his retirement by making a donation to the Michael<br />
J. Reed Scholarship Fund or the Ida <strong>and</strong> Harry Reed Scholarship Fund at the Rinehart Foundation.<br />
