Using Craftplace.org to Promote Your Business: 

A Guide for CHA Members



Overview 

Craftplace.org was built to provide information, inspiration and resources to 

crafters. The site functions as an interactive portal to all things craft on the 

web, linking out to any resource a crafter may need. Craftplace engages users 

through inviting them to send content suggestions, vote on projects and blog 

postings, provide input through taking surveys and polls, participate in 

discussion groups and create profiles where they can connect with other users, 

comment on crafts projects and upload their own crafts.

Crafting Resources 

Crafting Resource Library 

The Library provides craft publication resources to craft consumers. Content is 

categorized by books, magazines and videos. 

Opportunity: CHA members may submit content for inclusion in the library. 

How to Submit: 

E-mail craftplace@craftandhobby.org. 

Indicate: 

• Publication title & author 

• Content type (book, magazine or video) 

• Image (low res image of cover or logo) 

• Brief description of publication 

• URL to link out to 

*If this information currently resides on a webpage where craftplace 

administrators can pull the content listed above, then simply provide 

the web link and identify the content type.

Crafting Resource Library Featured Content 

Each page within the library features a publication of interest on the top of the 

webpage. Featured content will be posted on a first-come, first-served basis 

for 1-2 week periods. 

Opportunity: CHA members may submit content for inclusion in the Library 

Feature area. 



Indicate: 

• Publication title & author 

• Content type (book, magazine or video) 

• Image (low res image of cover or logo) 

• Brief description of publication, what makes this publication 

special or unique, any time sensitive info (should feature 

coincide with a release/launch date)

Useful Craft Links 

The Useful Craft Links section provides craft consumers with Craft Retail Sites, 

Inspiration Galleries, Craft Project Resources, Craft Charities and Crafty 

Website resources. 

Opportunity: CHA members may submit content for inclusion in any of the 

Useful Craft Link sections. 



Indicate: 

• Name of the site 

• Content type (retail site, inspiration gallery, project resource, 

charity, crafty website) 

• Brief description of the site/content to be included

Useful Craft Links Featured Content 

Each page within the Crafting Resources area features a website or content of 

interest on the top of the webpage. Featured content will be posted on a firstcome, 

first-served basis for 1-2 week periods. 

Opportunity: CHA members may submit content for inclusion in the Useful 

Craft Links Feature area. 



Indicate: 

• Name of the site 

• Content type (retail site, inspiration gallery, project resource, 

charity, crafty website) 

• Image (low res image of logo, screenshot, etc.- 106 x 107 

pixels) 

• Brief description of site, what makes it special or unique, any 

time sensitive info (does featured content request coincide with 

an event or release/launch date)

Craft Projects 

Craftplace.org allows users to access and post step-by-step craft projects, 

photos of their finished projects and instructional videos. 

Opportunity: CHA members may post project instructions (step-by-step 

project sheets or instructional videos) featuring their products and linking back 

to their websites. 

How to Submit: (2 options) 

1. Create a profile in the Creators Exchange (access via the homepage). Once 

your profile is created you may upload projects and videos to craftplace.org. 

2. E-mail us and we will post them under the “Craftplace Keeper” admin 

profile: 


Include: 

• Image of completed project (and any accompanying step-bystep 

photos, if available) 

• Step by step instructions 

• List of materials needed to complete project 

• Any copy or credits to appear on the project page (copyrights, 

designer credits, etc.) 

• URL to link out to (if available) 

*If providing video content, please either send the YouTube url, or a 

QuickTime file of the video. Video content will be published to YouTube 

prior to posting on craftplace.org.

Crafting Blogs 

The crafting blogs section lists craft focused blogs and links users directly to 

those blogs. 

Opportunity: CHA members may submit their blog for inclusion in the 

Crafting Blogs sections. 



Indicate: 

• Name of blog 

• Brief description of the blog (this copy will be posted to this 

page) 

• Image (blog header or logo, 200 pixels wide)

The Crafting Blogs page highlights one blog at the top of the webpage. 

Featured content will be posted on a first-come, first-served basis for 1-2 week 

periods. 

Opportunity: CHA members may submit their blog as the featured Crafting 

Blog. 



Indicate: 

• Name of blog 

• Brief description of the blog (this copy will be posted to this 

page), anything that may set this apart from the rest, make is 

special or unique and any time sensitive info (should feature 

coincide with an event or release/launch date) 

• Image (blog header or logo)

Craft Happenings 

Calendar of Events 

The Calendar of Events provides a listing of large-scale crafting events, national 

crafting holidays and events. 

Opportunity: CHA members may submit events where they will be 

participating to help promote those shows and draw attendees. 



Indicate: 

• Name of Event 

• Brief description of the event 

• Event URL or “for more information” contact person

Craft News 

The Craft News section features crafting that is making headlines. Articles, 

television, major events and exciting releases – this section will highlight the 

latest and greatest in the crafting world. 

Opportunity: CHA members may submit content for inclusion in this section. 



Indicate: 

• News Item type (article, video, product release, event, etc.) 

• Description of news item/announcement 

• Date/time (if relevant) 

• Image/Video (if available) 

• URL to where more information can be found (if available)

Special Offers 

The Special Offers section lists coupons, specials and great discount offers on 

craft products and supplies. 

Opportunity: CHA members may submit coupons, discounts and offers in this 

area to drive traffic to their sites and stores. 



Include: 

• Special offer details (include dates that offer is valid) 

• PDF of coupon or link to site to redeem coupon/offer 

• Image and/or logo (if available) 

• URL where offer can be redeemed or more information can be 

found

Contests 

The Contests section posts craft related competitions where either the contest 

requires crafting or craft products or supplies are rewarded as the prize. 

Opportunity: CHA members may submit any contest or competition to drive 

participation, use of your products or traffic to your website.

• Contest details (include participation rules, prizes, number of 

winners, deadlines, etc.) 


• URL where to enter contest

Contests Feature 

The Contests page features one contest or give-a-way at the top of the page. 

The Featured Contest will be posted on a first-come, first-served basis for 1-2 

week periods. 

Opportunity: CHA members may submit or sponsor a contest or competition 

for the Contest Feature area.

• Contest details (include participation rules, prizes, number of 

winners, deadlines, etc.) 


• URL where to enter contest

Surveys & Polls 

The Surveys & Polls area gives craft consumers a place to voice their opinions 

and see how other crafters respond to the same questions. 

Opportunity: CHA members may conduct brief polls and/or surveys through 

craftplace.org. Surveys & Polls must adhere to the following format: 

• Survey Title (provide a name for the survey) 

• Intro text (provide directions or background for those taking the survey) 

• Questions- There are 3 types of questions that can be asked: 

1. Questions where the consumer may select only 1 answer from the 

options available 

2. Questions where the consumer may select as many answers that apply 

from the options available 

3. Open ended questions where the consumer types in a response.

Questions must adhere to the options above. (A single question cannot 

contain a combination of the various answer choices- you may not have 

consumers select as many that apply AND offer an open ended option.) 

The response to a particular question cannot impact the questions that 

follow. All consumers will be asked the same set of questions in the same 

order regardless of their responses. 

Consumer responses are recorded for complete surveys only. Answers for 

those that do not complete all questions will not be recorded. Consumers 

are only able to take each survey once. If they return using the same 

computer, they will not be able to take the same survey multiple times. 



Include: 

• Title & Intro copy of survey or poll 

• Questions and answers (indicate the type of answer- radio 

buttons, check boxes or open ended) - surveys do not have 

length restrictions, but please limit questions to no more than 

15. 

• Length of time you wish to run survey and any start or end 

dates (surveys will be posted first-come, first-served)
