ANT & DEC’S BIG RED NOSE BROADCAST
Ant & Dec have already broadcast to an estimated 35 million people today and they are still
going!
Ant & Dec have broadcast to an estimated 35 million people SO FAR in their attempt to reach their
biggest audience yet, all for Red Nose Day. To support their entertaining efforts go to
www.rednoseday.com/antanddec.
Ant & Decs’ Big Red Nose Broadcast kicked off at 07:14am this morning on Daybreak where the cheeky
chaps managed to persuade Christine Bleakly and Adrian Chiles to not only donate their shoes to their
celebrity auction but also the Daybreak sofa! Before making a quick getaway on rickshaws they popped
in to see Lorraine Kelly in her dressing room and nabbed a tartan bra and pants for the auction. They
then hopped on to a speedboat before leaping on to Limo bikes to reach BBC Breakfast for the second
TV hit of the day.
Chris Evans on Radio 2 got an unexpected call from the duo mid-way through their travels helping to add
his millions of listeners to their rapidly growing audience reach. Christian O’Connell on Absolute Radio
also got a surprise call as have regional radio stations up and down the country.
The presenters have hung out with some Loose Women, and chewed the fat about horses on Sky
channel At the Races. Whether TV or radio all the shows have embraced the Red Nose Day spirit and
offered some amazing auction prizes.
As well as the burgeoning TV and Radio audience Ant & Dec have attracted some very famous fans
online with Fearne Cotton and Lorraine Kelly tweeting about the boy’s progress as well as hundreds of
members of the public. Lorraine Kelly tweeted: “Was raided by Ant and Dec today - they are so adorable
- Sent them off with a tartan bra and knickers each - all in aid of Comic Relief!”
Dec said: “It was an early start this morning - we really did watch day break! But we’re on track to
complete our challenge and hopefully we’ve helped to kick Red Nose week off with a bang. At the end of
today we want the whole of the UK to know that it’s Red Nose Day on Friday.”
Ant added: “We’ve had a very funny day but we’re not done yet. We’ve got some unusual TV targets in
our sights this afternoon. Thankfully all the presenters we have met and called so far have been only too
willing to give over a few minutes of their air-time to let us spread the Red Nose Day message. Everyone
has really embraced the spirit of our challenge.”
The guys have already collected an unusual selection of mementos from their day, including the
Daybreak purple sofa, a pair of Take That tickets from Heart FM, Phil Vickery’s casserole dish from This
Morning, four signed mugs from the Loose Women and two tickets to the Wizard of Oz with a
backstage tour from LBC radio . These will be auctioned to raise money for Red Nose Day, in an online
auction starting on Friday 18 th March. Full details will be available on www.rednoseday.com. All the
money raised by the public will be spent by Comic Relief to help vulnerable people in the UK and Africa.
There will be an opportunity to see how the guys get on as footage of their challenge will be shown on
Comic Relief: Funny for Money on Friday 18 th March on BBC One.
NOTES TO EDITORS:
About Red Nose Day:
Red Nose Day 2011 is heading your way on Friday 18 th March when the great British public will once
again be asked to Do Something Funny for Money.
To join in the fun go to www.rednoseday.com and find out how you can get involved.
By raising cash this Red Nose Day, you’re helping to change lives forever. That’s because Comic Relief
spends all the money raised by the public to give extremely vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the
UK and Africa a helping hand to turn their lives around.
Comic Relief was launched on Christmas Day in 1985, live on BBC One. At that time, a devastating
famine was crippling Ethiopia and something had to be done. That something was Comic Relief. The idea
was simple – Comic Relief would make the public laugh while they raised money to help people in
desperate need. Before too long, Red Nose Day was created and the first ever event in 1988 raised a
staggering £15m. To date, twelve Red Nose Days have raised more than £500m. That money has helped,
and is helping, to support people and communities in dire need both in the UK and Africa.
