GENERAL OBJECTIVE: To advance health monitoring in the EU and all EU Member<br />

States by developing relevant, valid and comparable health indicators and making them<br />

available in the EU and in most Member States.<br />

MAIN SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: 1) To develop the ECHI shortlist indicators and<br />

their definitions; 2) To assess the availability and comparability of the ECHI shortlist<br />

indicators and their data sources; 3) To create a network of 1–3 health indicator<br />

experts from each Member State; 4) To maintain liaison with the Member States and<br />

their institutes, the Public Health Programme, other Working Parties, Eurostat, the<br />

OECD, the WHO Regional Office for Europe, and other national and international<br />

organisations; 5) To carry out the first phase of the ECHI shortlist implementation in<br />

most Member States; 6) To develop the <strong>ECHIM</strong> Products website; and 7) To act as<br />

the scientific secretariat for the Working Party Indicators and coordinate its projects<br />

horizontally.<br />

STRATEGIC RELEVANCE & CONTRIBUTION TO THE PROGRAMME:<br />

<strong>ECHIM</strong> implemented core tasks of the Public Health Programme 2003–2008 and<br />
