Accommodation and fees<br />
Participation fees<br />
The tuition fees cost 550 euros.<br />
Participants are free <strong>to</strong> choose accommodation from a variety of options,<br />
with prices starting from 100 euros for <strong>the</strong> whole 2 weeks.<br />
Participants are responsible for <strong>the</strong>ir travel expenses.<br />
Discounts and fellowships<br />

Nationalism, Religion and Violence in SE Europe<br />
Summary of <strong>course</strong><br />
The <strong>International</strong> <strong>Hellenic</strong> <strong>University</strong> (www.ihu.gr), in partnership with Charles<br />
<strong>University</strong> of Prague, Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) of Cyprus and<br />
with <strong>the</strong> support of <strong>the</strong> LSEE - Research on South Eastern Europe is offering<br />
a 2-week intensive Summer School for Students of Political Science, His<strong>to</strong>ry,<br />
Anthropology, Sociology, <strong>International</strong> Relations, <strong>International</strong> Law, Journalism<br />
and o<strong>the</strong>r related disciplines. The <strong>course</strong> can be taken by both undergraduates<br />
and graduate students.<br />
The general <strong>the</strong>me of <strong>the</strong> summer school is Nationalism, Religion and Violence<br />
in SE Europe. A key goal of <strong>the</strong> summer school is <strong>to</strong> contribute in a substantial<br />
way <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> study of violence and <strong>to</strong> catalyse <strong>the</strong> growth of <strong>the</strong> study of violence<br />
as a field. Fur<strong>the</strong>rmore, participants will have <strong>the</strong> opportunity <strong>to</strong> forge valuable<br />
connections with one ano<strong>the</strong>r and with senior scholars working on various<br />
aspects of violence.<br />
Structure of <strong>the</strong> Programme<br />

• Genocide, Ethnic Cleansing and Mass Atrocities<br />
• Political Violence: Legacies and Debates<br />
• Religion and politics: Islam, Judaism and Christianity between <strong>to</strong>lerance<br />
and conflict<br />
• National Self-Imagining in <strong>the</strong> Era of Globalisation<br />
• Institutional accommodation of nationalism, religion and political violence<br />

Working Hours<br />
10:00 – 14:00 & 15:00-17:00<br />
Every <strong>the</strong>me will be discussed over two or three consecutive days by a<br />
number of senior academics and summer school participants. Overall, <strong>the</strong><br />
summer school will take place over 10 days, 60 working hours, plus a 30-<br />
hour workload of individual work on research projects and fieldwork trips.<br />
Course Credits<br />
A certificate of attendance will be provided, at <strong>the</strong> end of <strong>the</strong> programme<br />
<strong>to</strong> all participants. Students/Graduates will obtain 4 ECTS credits for<br />
completing <strong>the</strong> <strong>course</strong>. Those that will have delivered an oral presentation<br />
(for example, <strong>the</strong> presentation of <strong>the</strong>ir research project) on a <strong>to</strong>pic of <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
choice (guided by <strong>the</strong> summer school instruc<strong>to</strong>rs) will receive up <strong>to</strong> 6 ECTS<br />
credits. Since degree requirements vary among universities, students/<br />
graduates are advised <strong>to</strong> ensure, preferably in advance, that <strong>the</strong>ir college or<br />
university will recognise such certification and award <strong>the</strong> suggested credits.
