Invent – Transforming Knowledge<br />

into Commercial Success<br />

<strong>DCU</strong> students with entrepreneurial flair have the opportunity to<br />

transform ideas into successful businesses in a state-of-the-art<br />

innovation and enterprise centre. Invent is a groundbreaking centre<br />

for innovation, a catalyst for technology transfer, providing a dynamic<br />

knowledge environment for entrepreneurs. It is responsible for the<br />

management of the <strong>University</strong>’s research based Intellectual Property,<br />

as well as its commercialisation through technology transfer,<br />

licensing and the creation of campus companies. It also manages the<br />

Innovation & Enterprise Centre located in the heart of the campus.<br />

Library<br />

<strong>DCU</strong> Library provides a spacious, flexible and comfortable environment<br />

in which to study and work. You can avail of quiet individual study<br />

areas or one of 17 collaborative study rooms specifically designed for<br />

group project work. As a postgraduate student, you can also opt to<br />

use a number of dedicated postgraduate study areas.<br />

PCs are available throughout the library and laptop users can<br />

avail of wireless network access or use one of the many dedicated<br />

laptop points. By working closely with academic departments, the<br />

library provides access to all essential texts and general research<br />

material. From the library’s own website (either on-campus or at<br />

home), you can access a wide range of information and services,<br />

including research databases in all disciplines and over 30,000 fulltext<br />

electronic journals. Using the library’s web-based catalogue,<br />

you can also reserve and renew material online.<br />

Library staff are available to provide one to one help and advice on<br />

how to make the most of all library resources and services. You will<br />

also have the opportunity to develop and enhance your research<br />

skills by attending information literacy sessions, delivered by an<br />

expert team of Subject Librarians.<br />

Information Systems and Services<br />

Information Systems and Services (ISS) provide computing and<br />

networking facilities throughout the campus for use by the students<br />

and staff of <strong>DCU</strong>. As a student of <strong>DCU</strong>, we will provide you with:<br />

• Free wireless internet all over campus (phones and laptops).<br />

• 7GB+ of email storage in your <strong>DCU</strong> account (keep on graduation).<br />

• 1GB+ of online document storage (keep on graduation).<br />

• Shared access to hundreds of desktop computers across campus.<br />

• Facilities to print A4 pages in all computer laboratories on<br />

campus.<br />

• Access to course specific software in our computer laboratories.<br />

• Personalised portal page for timetables, exam results etc.<br />

ISS can help with any questions you have about the use of IT<br />

facilities in <strong>DCU</strong>. In addition, they can offer support and advice on<br />

the use and configuration of your personal laptop.<br />

Registry<br />

The Registry is responsible for the management and development<br />

of the operational procedures and activities relating to academic<br />

administration within the <strong>University</strong> including student admissions,<br />

registration, student records, examinations and graduation. The<br />

Registry is structured into two teams: The Student Enrolment<br />

team is concerned with all aspects of the enrolment of new and<br />

continuing students within <strong>DCU</strong>. This includes responsibility for<br />

the processing of applications and registrations on all programmes<br />

of study within the <strong>University</strong>. Changes to student registration<br />

detail (including biographical updates, withdrawals, internal<br />

transfers, change of module options and deferral of academic<br />

year) are also maintained. The team is also responsible for the<br />

management of the Student Information Area. The Student Awards<br />

team is responsible for all aspects of the examination process,<br />

including examination timetables, invigilation and examination<br />

results as well as arrangements for the graduation ceremonies.<br />

The team also provides services for the <strong>University</strong> in the area of<br />

postgraduate research and external examiner administration.<br />

The Registry is the only office in the <strong>University</strong> authorised to<br />

provide students with statements of results, transcripts of<br />

academic records and other forms of official certification required<br />
