ORDER OF WORSHIP - FATHER’S DAY
PRELUDE Prayer - Jacques Lemmens
THE GATHERING
*HYMN 710 Faith of Our Fathers St. Catherine
*INVOCATION
Leader: Come to us, eternal Spirit, and show yourself to us as tangibly as
we are aware of one another. For if you are not here, our
gathering is without meaning; and if you are here and we do not
recognize you, our gathering is in vain. So teach us to recognize
you in the beauty that surrounds us, in the relationships with
which we find love, and through our outreach to those who are
vulnerable and marginalized.
People: In this spirit, we have gathered in worship.
WORDS OF WELCOME/ANNOUNCEMENTS
PASSING OF THE PEACE
Please greet the person next to you with the words, “Peace be with you.”
The response is, “And also with you.”
DEDICATION OF MIDDLE SCHOOL MISSION TRIP
PRAYERS OF THE COMMUNITY
UNISON PRAYER
Fountain of infinite imagination, you create a world and
challenge us to discover it. Our discovery, however, awakens in
us the stunned realization that you mean for us to help create this
world, to transform it into the garden of your intention. At one
moment, seeing the achievements of which we are capable, we
think you inspired beyond comprehension. At other moments,
witnessing the destruction that we can wreak upon the earth, we
think you must have made a terrible mistake. Grant us the
courage, O God, not to doubt, but to embrace your vision for the
world. And as you do, grant us also the wisdom that discriminates
between information and truth, so we can tell when our efforts
complement and when they subvert your intention. This we pray
as a community striving together to be more faithful. Amen.
Happy Father’s Day
SKY VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL COMES TO UPARK
UPUMC invites children to Sky Vacation Bible School! At Sky, kids discover that everything is
possible with God! Sky is filled with incredible Bible-learning experiences kids see, hear, touch,
and even taste! Sciency-Fun Gizmos TM , team-building games, cool Bible songs, and tasty treats
are just a few of the Sky activities that help faith flow into real life. Plus, we’ll help kids discover
how to see evidence of God in everyday life – something we call God Sightings. Get ready to
hear that phrase a lot! Your kids will also participate in a hands-on mission project through a
program called Operation Kid-to-Kid TM that will let the kids in our community show God’s love
to children in Mali, Africa.
Sky is for kids four-years old through fifth grade. Since everything is hands-on, kids might get a
little messy. Be sure to send them in play clothes and safe shoes. So mark these dates on your
calendar: June 24-27. The fun starts at 9:00 a.m. and will end at noon, Monday through Thursday.
UPUMC is in need of several volunteers to help teach or Shepherd for Sky! If you are interested
in helping or to register your children, please contact Amber Rundle-Kahn at 303/535-7832 or
lucitar@gmail.com.
We need many more volunteers to make VBS happen. You can go to the church website:
http://universityparkumc.org/ and sign up. Under the statement about VBS you click on More
information and registration, which will bring you to the CHILDREN’S page. Scroll down
to the bottom of the SKY article and click on VBS Volunteer Sign Up. PLEASE!! We need
your help. Don’t think that you have to sign up for only one slot!
PB&J LUNCH MINISTRY AT CIVIC CENTER PARK
Once again D.U. Foundation students have gone home, but the homeless of Civic Center Park still need
lunch on Friday. If you, your Sunday school class, or club wants to provide sandwiches, it’s time to sign up
on the sheets on the bulletin board in the Foyer. It’s a “Make & Take” arrangement. You make 50 sack
lunches (PB&J sandwich, piece of fruit, snack, a bottle of water) and drive them to Civic Center Park on
Friday for distribution at noon. Liza Stoltz-Hanson will accompany you to the park. We will pass them out
to the homeless who are there, anxiously waiting.
A group can make the sandwiches and fill the brown bags in perhaps 50 minutes with an assembly line
process (or make them the evening prior). Your group needs to leave the church by 11:15 for Civic Center
Park to be ready to share lunches at 12:00. Usually the lunches are distributed by 12:15. Then your group
arrives back at church by 12:45. It is a very rewarding operation, and your children will benefit from this act
of kindness by seeing philanthropy at work. Sign up on the bulletin board in the church foyer and start
purchasing the peanut butter and jelly. The complete inventory needed is on the board, as well. For
questions, please contact Liza at 612-799-3818 or l.stoltzhanson@gmail.com.
We’ve had a great response from our UPark church family. The following are the remaining Fridays
during the summer. Listed are groups already signed up. Please note the blank dates and sign up on the
bulletin board in the foyer, by contacting Liza, or contacting the church office.
KIDS CANS FOR KIDS RECYCLING – Our continuing redemption of aluminum cans and
other miscellaneous metals has resulted in donations of $124.57 from roughly 208 pounds of
aluminum and scrap metal. Proceeds go for the Children’s Hospital Chaplaincy to supply Bibles for
patients and their families including Spanish Bibles, and to supply other reading materials for the
mobile interfaith cart. Keep bringing those aluminum cans.
UMW sells grocery cards (King Soopers or Safeway) at the reception desk on Sunday. You may
“reload” them at the store. 5% of your purchase helps missions in the U.S. and globally through the
United Methodist Women. Find a map in the foyer to see who we support!
MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR AN HISTORIC SUNDAY!
JUNE 30
On the 30 th , those who so desire, will meet at Evanston United Methodist Church at 9 a.m. to
engage in a walking pilgrimage together with our Evanston family of faith. We’ll make our way
from Evanston to University Park Methodist Church carrying items of significance to Evanston’s
heritage. Avoiding the noise of Evans, we will take a route that will ultimately take us from
Evanston, across the University of Denver campus, and cross at the University and Warren
stoplight. Those UPark or Evanston folks not up to walking the entire distance are invited to meet
the pilgrimage along the route as we increase in numbers until we convene in the UPark
Courtyard. The UPark church van will also be available for shuttling to/from UPark and
Evanston, including shuttle service back to the Evanston Center afterward brunch.
In the Courtyard, there will be tables with adhesive nametags and markers. As a symbol of unity
in having the same style of nametags, all worshipers on June 30 will be invited to place their
names on a nametag, without denoting “Evanston” or “UPark.” The nametag table in the Narthex
will be covered that day as a reminder to make your own nametag.
Then at 10 a.m. there will be a procession from the Courtyard into the Sanctuary where Evanston
members will place their items of significance on the Chancel. The sermon message from Rev.
Paul Kottke will be The Third Place: Formation of a Covenant Community. At the end of the
service, Evanston folks who desire to become members of UPark will be invited forward where a
litany of membership will take place. Realizing that not everyone will be present from Evanston
on June 30, the succeeding Sundays in July and August will include an invitation to membership.
Following worship on the 30th, UPark members will host a potluck brunch welcoming Evanston
and celebrating the “gathering of the whole.” On that note, we invite UPark members to bring
brunch fare for 8-10 people, being sensitive to food allergies. As part of our gathering, we will
encourage folks to blend around tables and savor stories to be shared as part of embracing our
new UPark!
Save the Date!! Project Homeless
Connect 13 will be Tuesday, September
17, 2013! More details coming later!

A THANK YOU FROM CAROL FEICKERT
Carol Feickert, our former Administrative Assistant, was recently honored for her wonderful
years of service to UPark UMC. Recently she sent a lovely thank you note that we want to share
with everyone.
We are now completely moved into our new apartment, although
we are still not unpacked. We really love it, the view to the west, and no
lawn to water!!
I am overdue to say thank you for the wonderful “parting gifts” I
received. The bronze cross has a place near our dining room table and
looks very reverently protective. The love offering was welcomed, and Jim
and I send thanks to everyone who pitched in!! What a great way to
send an employee away!!
I send my heartfelt thanks and all my love to everyone at UPark.
What a terrific 9+ years I had!!
Hugs to all,
Carol Feickert
