Dear <strong>CiTR</strong> members, volunteers, programmers, friends and supporters,<br />
<strong>CiTR</strong> has accomplished many things this year. We’ve worked hard to<br />
increase our public profile, both on and off campus, by sponsoring numerous<br />
festivals and events. Our financial situation has improved, and we’ve<br />
adjusted our systems ensure accountability. We now have media liability<br />
insurance, and have renewed our <strong>CiTR</strong>-AMS agreement. We’ve met with<br />
the architects that will be designing the new Student Union Building (and<br />
our future radio station), and Discorder has a strong new team and new<br />
website. For the first time, we commissioned a BBM survey, giving us our<br />
first listener statistics. In addition, our third annual Fundrive was the most<br />
successful to date, raising over $22,000 for the station!<br />
I’m constantly amazed by the quality of programming produced here at<br />
<strong>CiTR</strong> and the level of volunteer commitment at the station. Whether you<br />
are a listener, a donor or a volunteer – thank you for your contribution!<br />

Breakfast with the Browns, hosted by Peter Sickert and James Boldt,<br />
celebrated its 20th anniversary on <strong>CiTR</strong> in September.<br />
March 16, 20<strong>09</strong>, Julie Dioron visited <strong>CiTR</strong> for a special edition of<br />
Live From Thunderbird Radio Hell to play songs from her newest<br />
album, I Can Wonder What You Did With Your Day.<br />
On Jan 17, 20<strong>09</strong>, <strong>CiTR</strong> led another year of 24 Hours of<br />
Radio Art with help from other stations.<br />
<strong>CiTR</strong> programmers hosted many guests, including:<br />
Steven Lyons on the Rib<br />
Lady Gaga, Will Sasso and K-OS on Hot Mess<br />
Black Kids on Shameless<br />
CITR’s first Show Swap occurred July 21-27, with<br />
programmers trading shows, and testing their chops<br />
at programming new topics and genres.<br />
<strong>CiTR</strong>’s Sports Team covered over 100 games this year, including 22 playoff<br />
games. They traveled to Victoria, Saskatoon, Lethbridge and Calgary to<br />
provide their broadest and most comprehensive coverage yet.<br />
<strong>CiTR</strong> hosted a live broadcast of the Welcome Back BBQ at UBC,<br />
giving our listeners a chance to hear The Clips, No Gold and<br />
Matinee live. We were also backstage at the AMS Block Party<br />
interviewing Tokyo Police Club and the Roots.<br />
On December 5, <strong>2008</strong>, Discorder celebrated its 25th birthday<br />
with a karaoke party at Hoko’s Sushi.

New Projects<br />
<strong>CiTR</strong> commissioned its first ever BBM (Bureau of Broadcast<br />
Management) listenership survey. The station learned that it<br />
has over 14,400 listeners on average per week, and a market<br />
share of 0.5%, the same as Radio-Canada.<br />
The Friends of <strong>CiTR</strong> Card is expanding!<br />
All members are now given a complimentary<br />
Friends card and the list of businesses<br />
has grown to 26.<br />
<strong>CiTR</strong> sponsored lots of new events in Vancouver this year. We<br />
had a presence at the Push Festival, the Vancouver Folk Music<br />
Festival, New Forms Festival, the Pride Parade, Meet the Filmmakers<br />
and many shows at venues around town.<br />
@<strong>CiTR</strong>1019, a twitter account for <strong>CiTR</strong> related information, was<br />
created during this year’s Fundrive in an effort to utilize social<br />
media to connect listeners to the station.<br />
Since Prof Talk debuted on <strong>CiTR</strong> in November <strong>2008</strong>, 30 guests have<br />
appeared on the show from over 18 different faculties/schools/departments<br />
on campus. Prof Talk has now appeared in over 15 web pages;<br />
podcasts have been uploaded to individual faculty/department websites<br />
as well as on several online UBC magazines/newsletters, strengthening<br />
the connection between <strong>CiTR</strong> and UBC.<br />
Becky Sandler, <strong>CiTR</strong>’s promotions director, started a street team<br />
that provided the man and woman -power to up our partnerships<br />
with local venues.<br />
Other new events included:<br />
Cover Shoot, a beer garden co-organized with the Ubyssey<br />
Radio Zero hosted Night Timing, an all ages show in the Ballroom<br />
Fine Mist, SSRI’s and the Sappers at the UBC Gallery Pub

Fundrive<br />
<strong>CiTR</strong>’s third annual Fundrive raised $24,333.64! For two weeks during<br />
November, <strong>CiTR</strong> programmers offered special programming and<br />
incentives to encourage listeners to donate. We surpassed our goal of<br />
$15,000 — the support was overwhelming.<br />
We spent our Fundrive money on:<br />
A new computer and a serato mixer for Studio A<br />
A new sound board for Thunderbird Radio Hell<br />
Speakers, a mixer and amp for mobile sound<br />
Three brand new chairs for our DJs and guests<br />
A new website for Discorder<br />
<strong>CiTR</strong> operational costs<br />

Grunau slaved for hours to fashion<br />
this quilt out of leftover <strong>CiTR</strong> swag.<br />
The quilt was a raffle item at the<br />
Fundrive Finale, and the winner<br />

Another great year for Shindig! From almost 100 entries, 27 bands competed<br />
for fabulous prizes and the prestige of winning the longest running<br />
battle of the bands in Vancouver.<br />
