The largest BRUSH generators are manufactured in the 2 pole Centre of
Excellence facility in the Czech Republic. Here BRUSH design and manufacture
both air cooled and hydrogen cooled generators as well as associated excitation
systems.
To date more than 1300 turbogenerators and 245 hydrogenerators have
been manufactured for customers in Europe, Asia, South America, Africa and
Australia.
The facility became part of the BRUSH group in 2008 but the first
turbogenerator was manufactured on site in 1924 and first hydrogenerator a
year later. As part of the large Škoda group, it supplied many of the generators
and associated equipment required in the Eastern European markets. The
factory underwent a major upgrade of facilities in 1950 with the construction of
the ‘Gigant’ workshop.
BRUSH hydrogen cooled turbogenerators have the following features:

The original BRUSH company was the Anglo-American BRUSH Electric Light
Corporation which was established in 1879 in Lambeth, London, to exploit
the inventions of Charles Francis BRUSH (1849-1929). BRUSH, born in
Cleveland, Ohio, had developed his first dynamo in 1876 and founded the
American BRUSH Company in 1881. This American company lasted until
about 1891
In 1888 the company located to Loughborough and is to this day the
headquarters of BRUSH. Over the years the site has produced everything
from arc lamps and incandescent lights to dynamos, motors, switchgear,
transformers, tramcars vehicle bodies and even aircraft.
Today it is the Centre of Excellence for the design and manufacture of the DAX
range of 2-pole turbogenerators, variable speed drive 2-pole motors plus power
management and excitation systems.
BRUSH air (or air/water) cooled 2 pole turbogenerators have the following

• All generators are factory tested, reducing the onsite testing and
commissioning time

Dating back to 1882 and a pedigree as Holec Machines, BRUSH in the
Netherlands is the Centre of Excellence for the design and manufacture of
high voltage 4-pole synchronous generators. Here, BRUSH also manufactures
specialist traction motors and provides service capabilities for numerous makes
and types of large electrical machines. This facility is an essential part of the
BRUSH group adding bespoke specialist capabilities to its new build and
Aftermarket services.

generation equipment, can offer a complete range of controllers to meet the
most demanding specifications for brushless and static excitation systems.
BRUSH can provide you with your generator control and protection
requirements, from simple single generator controls to multiple generators’ with
protection and synchronization.
BRUSH also supply standard control panels, PRISMIC Control Systems can
provide engineering design and prototyping services for all types of control,
monitoring and protection panels according to clients’ needs and required
application.
BRUSH was one of the first companies to offer digital technology in this field
and continues to provide some of the most advanced solutions for excitation
control. Our controllers are designed to comply with IEEE 421.5 models and
meet the international standards for these products such as CE, UL, and CSA.
PRISMIC® Excitation Systems benefit from constant development and
improvement. Enhancements in power electronics and digital control have given
the ability to create effective solutions for today’s demanding environments.
Providing a clear upgrade path for users of MAVR systems, a preassembled
and tested package has been developed, so that existing generator control
panels can be kept with the control unit being quickly replaced, reducing
generator downtime. Any upgrade can be scheduled to coincide with planned
maintenance outages.

your conventionally cooled Rotor with a radially cooled Rotor,
combined with the replacement of some parts such as the heat
exchanger, an increase of power to your BRUSH machine by up
to 33% is achievable.

Systems, Ground fault monitor retrofits, Lubricating oil
systems, Sealing oil systems and cooling gas systems.

BRUSH Condition Monitoring measures Partial Discharge
Activity (PDA) within electrical equipment PDA provides
an early warning of degradation of the electrical insulation
system, and how quickly that deterioration is progressing.
The data produced, along with an accurate assessment of
operating conditions, provides top-quality diagnostics and a
reliable analysis of a machine’s health and performance.
