This monthly newsletter is part of Enloe Medical Center’s commitment to keeping you informed
about significant construction activity for our expansion project. Work for the month includes:
First floor of patient tower to make first appearance this month – Crews are expected to
complete the basement walls in May. This will include starting the waterproofing process and
backfilling the walls with dirt from the
excavated pile. About half of the dirt pile
will be used at this time, and the
remainder will be used as backfilling
continues. Also in May, conveyors and a
gravel truck will work from 5 th Avenue to
place gravel for the basement floor. With
the basement nearing completion, crews
will begin placing forms for the first floor
deck and will build some of the first floor
walls and columns. Rough plumbing and
electrical work will continue in the walls
and under the slab as work progresses on
each floor.
May 2008
Parking structure stair tower rooftops in place – A crane placed the roofs on the two stair
towers at 6 th and 7 th Avenues in late April. Later in the project these two roofs will have Spanish
tiles. Meanwhile, scaffolding is up around the structure, as crews
continue framing, and safety netting around the scaffolding at the
stair towers will contain all equipment within it. Framing involves
several phases, including ongoing placement of Dens Glass gold
sheathing, part of an exterior insulated wall system; lathing, which
is the placement of wire and black paper, and will take place in
May; and finally the laying of stucco. The elevator roof will be
placed this month.
Now that the
weather is
warming up, Modern Building will hand water the
trees around the parking garage, per instructions of
arborists. The red bud tree has continued to receive
regular weekly soakings, and was the temporary home
to a basketball-size colony of bees. Looking ahead,
landscaping and driveway approaches should begin by
the end of June or early July.
