"While some lads were hunting in the vicinity of Eagle Hawk Gully on Good Friday, one of them named Oscar Gregory,
aged 15 years, lost his dog. As the animal did not return home he on Tuesday, in company with Alick Bremner, aged 11
years, proceeded to search for it, taking another dog with them. During the search the dog ran up a disused tunnel and
began barking; the lads lit a torch of bark and started to explore the tunnel, Gregory in advance, when he suddenly
disappeared down a winze over 40 ft. deep. He called to his mate that he had fallen down a shaft, and that the lost dog
was also there, and alive. He told Bremner to hasten and tell someone to come to his assistance. Willing hands, notably
William Simmons, W. Hutchins, J.T. Snoxall, with ropes, candles, etc. were soon on the spot; Simmons going below,
where he found the lad with the dog in his arms and unhurt, with the exception of a few scratches -- a truly marvellous

"Maintenance Case.-- At the Police Court yesterday morning Ellen Bremner proceeded against her husband, Jas. Bremner, for having, on
and since March 22, left her and her female child, aged none years, without means of support, and by his cruelty compelled her to leave her
home. Mr. M.J, Clarke appeared for the defendant, to show cause. The complainant in the course of her evidence stated that she had been
married 13 years. On the night of March 22 her husband came home the worse for drink. He went into his room and shut the door, and
afterwards rushed out again. Becoming frightened, she left her home. In answer to Mr. Clarke, the complainant stated that she had only
been struck once by her husband and that occurred about five months ago. She had always plenty of food, and seldom quarrelled. Her
husband had not been speaking much to her lately which was the cruelty she complained about. The night she left her home she did not
wait to see why her husband had rushed out of his room. Al she wanted was peace and quietness. Mr. Clarke -- Was the drink your
husband had some of your own brewing Witness-- Yes; it was a composition of vinegar, water, tartaric acid and carbonate of soda. Mr.
Clarke -- Then it's no wonder he saw stars at time, after drinking such a concoction. The Police Magistrate advised the complainant to go
home, and not go meddling in police court cases unless she had something to go upon. The case was dismissed."

Obituary
Mr. William Bremner
The funeral took place at the Sidmouth Cemetery on July 2 of Mr. William Bremner, who died suddenly at Launceston at the age of 35
years.

Mr. Bremner was the only child of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bretton (sic) Bremner, Beaconsfield, and was respected by all who knew him.
He was well known on the Tamar amongst footballers and cricketers, having played since his school days. He was also a homing
enthusiast.
The services at the church and graveside, conducted by Mr. Rainsbury, were largely attended. Many beautiful floral tributes were received.
Pall bearers were Messrs. T. Tiffin, A. Hatton, B. Jarman, and H. Hinds.
Mr. Bremner leaves a widow and young daughter, Colleen.
The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr. C.T. Finney, Launceston.
