FREUD MUSEUM Former home of the trailblazing Austrian psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud, where you can see his famous couch. Until 10 Feb DreamWork. Inspiration for a generation The Beat Generation – the counterculture movement that emerged in the early 1950s with the likes of Jack Kerouac (author of On The Road) and poet Allen Ginsberg – seems to be enjoying a moment of cultural rediscovery, making William S. Burroughs: All Out Of Time And Into Space particularly timely. Author and artist Burroughs was friends with Kerouac and Ginsberg and a key source of inspiration for the Beat movement, though he disassociated himself from it. This exhibition (until 16 Feb) takes a fresh look at his artistic output, which embraced rebellion and unconventionality in the post-war period, rejected conditioning and explored intelligence. It also examines his preoccupation with ecological crises in the age of space exploration and the consequences of unchecked industrial development through a series of paintings, drawings and ‘art objects’.
