Materials and skills
which never go rusty

New company structure
offers new opportunities
– most of all for our customers
Örnalp and Unozon are two strong companies with a lot of things
in common. We have the same business philosophy and work in
related business sectors – with rust free materials. Our respective
business premises, furthermore, are just a stone’s throw away from
one and other in the expanding Örnsköldsvik area. Thus, we have
now taken that affinity to its natural conclusion and got hitched.
Our marriage has been facilitated by the fact that we now have the same owner
– Vinovo. The amalgamation and form of ownership brings a number of advantages
along with it for customers:
• An even broader selection of products and services.
• Coordinated purchasing, production and administration.
• An even greater knowledge base, placed at your disposal.
• A strong owner, which gives confidence, continuity and good investment
opportunities.
All that we had, we still hold – our products, business premises and specialist skills
are still there when you need them. Now, however, we are quite simply twice as big
and three times as strong.
When it’s quality that counts
The pressure in our tanks and heat
exchangers is often extremely high. This
also puts pressure on the manufacturing
process.
Örnalp and Unozon are two of
Europe’s leading suppliers and, when it
comes to titanium, aluminium and stainless
steel, we have placed products all
over the world. Down the years we have
built up a wealth of experience, both in
welding and in the processing of metal
based products. For this reason, we always
relish the challenge of working with
clients who come to us with exacting
specifications for their welded products.
Our greatest resource is our work force.
A team that is renowned for its skilled
craftsmanship and invaluable expertise in
metals and materials, their potential use
and areas of application.
In order to maintain and then expand
the levels of expertise within the company,
we have an apprenticeship scheme
whereby young, newly recruited staff
can shadow their older counterparts on
various projects.
We also work in conjunction with
Örnsköldsvik Industrial Group in order to
ensure a high standard of training across
the board. This is yet another comfort
zone and quality assurance factor for you
the client.

Pressure vessel – Titanium ASTM B265 Gr 2 in a one off design. We have experience of, amongst other things, BS 5500, EN 13445/480,
ASME Div VIII, AD Merkblatt and CE-marking of products.
Time is money
We always ensure that your order is handled efficiently and effectively. With our own dedicated
titanium stocks and a sophisticated logistics system, rapid delivery – according to an agreed
time schedule – is a matter of course where we are concerned. This is something more and more
clients have noticed and appreciate.
Many of the materials with which we work are costly and complicated in terms of
processing. For this reason, we continually strive to streamline the manufacturing
process in order to become even more efficient and thereby lower costs for our
customers.
Örnalp and Unozon have machine parks in convenient locations, which means
that we are in a position to respond very quickly to the manufacturing needs of our
clients. We have state of the art CNC machines, as well as drilling equipment, twelve
metre units and bed cutters.
Dedicated design
Our in house design department specialises in pressure bearing equipment. With the
expertise in metal and material working at our disposal, our design draughtsmen are
able to react very quickly to your requirements and then propose the best solution.
And given the fact that we have our own construction facility, we can follow the
production chain from start to finish. This facilitates a good feedback factor and an
extensive skills base.
We have had a longstanding
working relationship
with regards to receptacles for
various chemical processes.
Sometimes at short notice, they
have been able to come up
with a solution when something
unexpected has happened in
one of our plants. This is very
reassuring as far as we are
concerned!
We specialise in heat exchangers.
Extreme demands
– are meat and drink to us
Our job is full of challenges. We like that. The key thing is to find clever solutions for
demanding situations. Often at very short notice.
Our clients come from, amongst other
places, the defence forces, offshore,
the paper and pulp industry and from
within the chemical industry. These
are widely differing business sectors,
which place a broad range of very
specific demands on us as the supplier.
We build products for the marine
environment, which must be rust free;
products for hard wearing implements,
which must be light to the
touch and products having extreme
demands with regards to cleanliness,
to take just a number of examples.
This requires flexibility on our part and
an ability to quickly change from one
thing to another and this, in turn, has
encouraged our staff to specialise in
certain products and techniques.
We specialise in heat exchangers
Heat exchangers, made in various
sizes and from different materials,
are something of a speciality with us
here at Örnalp/Unozon and we design
them according to THEMES.
One of our areas of special
competence is heat exchangers made
of multi layered materials. Here,
explosion plated materials are welded
together via so called explosion welding.
We also have 70 years experience
in building stainless steel heat
exchangers.
International experience
We are licensed heat exchanger
manufacturers for the European and
Chinese markets and we are certified
with DNV, Lloyds, ABS and BV to
manufacture goods for seagoing
vessels.
We have extensive experience of
thermal design work and use HTFS
software in this context.
Titanium reactor for the production of chlorine dioxide.
Titanium
A small number of companies in Sweden specialise in titanium. We are one of them. In other
words; we know how to construct, design and weld our products to the client’s specifications
with stringent demands being placed on us in terms of a strong and durable product, which at
the same time must have a low weight factor.
For the most part, we work with homogenous materials. This is often both the best
and cheapest method. Sometimes, however, other solutions are required, such as
explosion welded materials, or loose lining perhaps, where a receptacle is covered
with thin titanium plating.
Titanium is difficult to weld. It requires specialist techniques and a protected
environment, because titanium alters its properties when coming into contact with
oxygen during welding. We weld according to ISO 3834 standards and all our
welders are is licensed.
Örnalp have a great range
of skills and know their
stuff when it comes to titanium
alloys. We contact them any time
a major stoppage occurs and
have only good things to say
about the cooperation levels.
Stainless steel
Our experience in plate processing and manufacturing in stainless
steel goes back almost 70 years. This means that we know
most things about production within this area. One example of
our breadth of knowledge is our work with special alloys such as
254SMO, duplex and 904L.
A large part of our production base is made up of production equipment and pressure
vessels for the technical side of the chemical industry, as well as the paper pulp
industry. For the most part, our products are to be found abroad, mainly in Asia and
South America.
A couple of years ago, Öviks Rostfria Svetstjänst AB, came onboard and added
a great range of skills to our company portfolio. This means that we have a substantial
skills base and great capacity levels within stainless steel welding. We have
modern equipment and carry out both MIG/MAG, CMT and TIG operations such as
plasma and flux cored wire welding.
I have a personal working
relationship with Unozon
going back 20 years. They work
as subcontractors for us when
we need certain machine and assembly
services. They have great
skills levels and are very good
manufacturers. When we give
them a project, we know that it
will be done correctly and will be
delivered on time. Quite simply,
they do an excellent job.
Pressure tanks made of aluminium alloy EN-AW 5083.
Aluminium
We have extensive experience of welding and processing with aluminium. A material which is
rust free and at the same time is both light and strong. This means that aluminium is suitable
for, amongst other things, military products and marine based appliances.
We enjoy using the experience we have to help our clients in the construction of
aluminium products. The weakest point in any construction is the weld. For this
reason, we have, amongst other things, invested in our own dedicated oven for heat
treatments involving aluminium. We carry out both solution treatments and accelerated
ageing. This means that we can retain up to 85 percent of the original tenacity
within the material. Örnalp/Unozon often makes use of CMT welds in order to use
as little heat as possible, where the aluminium construction element in the weld is
concerned. All our welders are licensed and we are DNV approved for the welding of
aluminium for classified vessel construction and secondary structures for aircraft.
Örnalp has manufactured
cockpits, masts
and tanks for us – based on our
drawings. Everything worked
very well and according to our
wishes. With them, you basically
always get things that are ready
for immediate use.
In strength calculations, the creep properties of titanium at 20°C must also be the basis of the
calculated values. The following calculated values are based on the creep-rupture value for 100,000
hours. From the strength standpoint, the maximum useful temperature for titanium alloy grades is
about 350°C. For unstressed components, the oxidation limit is fixed at about 500°C.
Örnalp is basically out on its own where titanium is
concerned but still very skilled for all that. Their greatest
strength is their reliability. They always do a great job.
