Best Glide

Come join us for the Burnaby Mountain
Best Glide Competition, now in
its eighth year.
We will continue with the same format
as last year, but with more prizes and cash
for our winners. We plan to bring the latest
wings from Aeros and U-Turn to test
fly.
Cost: By donation ($10 minimum).
Money collected will go to the Bridal
Falls Web Camera. A special prize will be
given to the person with the largest donation.
Location: Burnaby Mountain, of
course.
Date: Friday, Aug. 22, 2008. Starts after
4 p.m., weather permitting.
There are three events that all qualified
pilots may enter:
Solo A: Fly the most laps around the
trees (taking off from before the path –
no foot faults). Prize money: $25.
Solo B: Fly then kite the most laps
around the trees (foot faults are allowed).
Prize money: $25.
Team C: Fly then kite the most laps
around the trees (foot faults and “helpers”
are allowed). Prize money: $50.
The Rules:
— If during your flight you touch a tree
or person with your wing, you are disqualified
from the entire event.
— You must land on your feet for the
flight to count.
— You must be a HPAC or USHGA
member to enter.
— And finally, you must have fun.
2007 Winner:
Aaron Price was the big winner last
year. Using his “lucky purple Vitamin,” he
won both best glide and best kite, collecting
a cool $75, a U-Turn Team jacket, a
bottle of fine wine, a set of crystal glasses
and a Skywalk banner.
PG Nationals
July 28 - Aug. 2
Chelan, Wash.
The 2008 Canadian Paragliding Nationals
will be held July 28 to Aug. 2
at Chelan, Wash.
This is the first time a Canadian Nationals
competition will be staged at Chelan.
The event will be held in conjuction
with the Chelan Open, pre-PCW competition.
Registration: $325.
Pilot Requirements: USHPA issued
P4, or a P3 with Turbulence and crosscountry
special skills endorsements, or
foreign equivalent. Pilots must present
their current USHPA membership card
at registration. Foreign pilots will be able
to obtain a 30-day temporary USHPA
membership at registration.
Type of tasks: Race to goal via
turnpoints.
Prize classes: Open, Canadian, Serial,
Womens.
Prizes: Cash, trophies and swag.
Canadian scoring: Scored as a Canadian
competition for Canadian NTSS
points. This meet counts as a Canadian
meet for 2008, not a foreign meet. This is
to encourage all Canadian pilots to attend
and compete against each other, which is
important for Canadian team selection
Canadian prizes: For the first three
male and top female Canadians. Canadians
are also of course entered in the
open prize categories, as well as the serial
glider class.
