Two Bishop <strong>McGann</strong>-<strong>Mercy</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> Students Receive Suffolk Zone<br />

Physical Education Award<br />

Kayleigh Macchirole and Rocco Pascale, both seniors at Bishop <strong>McGann</strong>-<strong>Mercy</strong> Diocesan <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> in Riverhead,<br />

received the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance – Suffolk Zone Award on<br />

December 1, 2010, at a ceremony held at the Hyatt Regency Long Island Wind Watch Golf Club in Hauppauge.<br />

Criteria for this prestigious award includes demonstrated achievement in academics and physical education, outstanding<br />

character, school-wide leadership and serving as a role model for “living a healthy lifestyle” inside the school as well as in the<br />

community.<br />

Tennis<br />

For the third year in a row, Coach<br />

Mike Clauberg and Coach Dave Lessard<br />

led the varsity girls’ tennis team to the league<br />

crown and an undefeated season. That makes<br />

an impressive six (6) straight winning seasons<br />

and a forty-one (41) league match winning<br />

streak for the Lady Monarchs. The<br />

2010 team also became one of the<br />

Elite Eight of Suffolk County.<br />

GPA of 90.0% or better are awarded the New York State<br />

Scholar/Athlete Team Award. Congratulations to ALL of<br />

Sportsmanship<br />

The 2010 fall sportsmanship rankings are out, and Bishop <strong>McGann</strong>-<strong>Mercy</strong><br />

<strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong>’s opponents clearly view the Monarchs as exhibiting fairness, ethics,<br />

respect, and a sense of fellowship in victory and in defeat. Our fall teams finished<br />

5 of 59 in the County, and 2 of 15 in the Conference. First place honors went to<br />

the following teams: JV Golf, JV Boys’ Soccer, Jr. <strong>High</strong> Boys’ Soccer, JV Girls’<br />

Soccer, JV Girls’ Volleyball, and Varsity Girls’ Volleyball.<br />
