EHS Athletic Director
Head Football & Basketball Coach
Ricky Bowers was named Athletic Director for
Ensworth High School in May 2002. As athletic
director, he has overseen two football state championship
teams, two volleyball state championship
teams, five state basketball championship teams, a
girls lacrosse state championship team, and a girls
golf state championship team. In 1992, he joined
MBA as basketball and football coach winning 6
state championships—three in football and three
in basketball. At Ensworth, he has won 5 state
championships—two in football and three in
basketball. Coach Bowers and his wife Debbie are
the parents of four children.

HUBIE SMITH
Head Girls Basketball Coach
Hubie Smith was named the EHS Varsity Girls Basketball
Coach in April of 2008. In his 4 seasons as the Lady
Tigers coach, he has led the team to a 90-26 overall
record with three appearances in the TSSAA State
Championship game and four Final Four appearances.
In his 2nd season, he lead the Lady Tigers to a 25-4 record
culminating in winning the 2010 Division 2 State
Championship. Before coming to Ensworth, Coach
Smith spent four years as an Assistant Men’s Basketball
Coach at Lipscomb University. His previous 19 years in
coaching were spent as the head boys basketball coach
at Bartlett High School posting a 440-190 overall
coaching record. In his last eight years at Bartlett,
his teams averaged 29 wins a season, won seven
regular season District Championships, five Regional
Championships, and participated in four TSSAA State
Tournaments. In 2001 his Bartlett boys team won the
Division 1 State Championship in Class AAA.

football game FREE, practice before the game with the EHS Cheerleaders, AND perform at halftime

For: All athletes in rising grades 5–8
Summary: This summer long training program will take a 5 week approach to instruct athletes
on the proper techniques necessary to maximize their athletic potential. Utilizing a progressive
training program, athletes will improve their linear speed utilizing sleds, belts, and speed
specific drills. Athletes will also learn the proper mechanics of explosive power lifting and
resistance training at an age appropriate pace. Footwork and quickness will be emphasized to
improve change of direction skills. Join us for any or all weeks this summer to build a foundation
for enhancing your athletic performance.

SCOTT PERKINSON
Director of Fitness at EHS
Scott Perkinson serves as Director of Ensworth’s
innovative Fitness Program which develops and
implements individualized fitness programs for each
EHS student. Scott joined the Ensworth faculty from
Brentwood Academy, where he was Strength and Conditioning
Coach for all the high school sports teams.
After an illustrious high school athletic career in
football, basketball, and track, Scott attended the University
of Tennessee on a track scholarship. Scott has
previously worked as track and field coach at BGA and
as a graduate assistant in strength and conditioning
at the University of Tennessee. A UT graduate, Scott
earned his Master’s degree in Human Performance
and Sports Studies at UT. He is a certified strength and
conditioning specialist for the National Strength and
Conditioning Association.

MOLLY MACHLEIT
Cheer Coach
Molly Machleit is a 7th year Fitness Instructor and
6th year Head Cheerleading Coach at Ensworth
High School. She graduated in 2004 from the
University of Georgia majoring in Exercise Science
and received her Master’s in the Arts of Teaching
from Belmont in 2006. She is a certified Health
Fitness Specialist through the American College of
Sports Medicine and runs multiple fitness classes
for adults at Ensworth. Molly was a cheerleader for
the University of Georgia from 2000-2003 and also
served as an assistant cheerleading coach in 2003-
04. Additionally, Molly directs Ensworth cheerleading
clinics for youth throughout the school year
as well as a Christian cheerleading camp in Hilton
Head each summer.

JASON MAXWELL
Head Baseball Coach
Jason Maxwell enters his 7th year as Ensworth
Varsity Baseball Coach. The 2010 and 2011 Tiger
teams advanced to the sub state of Division II.
Jason also serves as coach on the Ensworth Middle
School football team. Prior to coming to Ensworth,
Jason played 12 years of professional baseball
baseball reaching the Major Leagues with the Chicago
Cubs and Minnesota Twins. He earned his B.S.
degree from Middle Tennesssee State University
where he was an All OVC performer for the Blue
Raider baseball team in 1992 & 1993.

JOHN MORRIS
Head Tennis Coach
John Morris joined Ensworth in November 2011
to head-up the EHS Boys & Girls Varsity Tennis
Program. He has spent over 15 years as a Tennis
Coach/Tennis Pro and has extensive experience
instructing adults and juniors at every level of
development, from beginners to nationally ranked
& collegiate players. He has been on the Tennis
staff at Belle Meade C.C., Richland C.C., Sequoia,
Old Natchez C.C. and Ravenwood C.C. in capacities
ranging from Assistant Tennis Professional & Director
of Junior Development to Head Tennis Professional
& Director of Tennis. John was a top-ranked
junior and high school player in North Carolina and
played collegiately at nationally ranked Presbyterian
College.

MOLLY BURGDORF
Head Girls Soccer Coach
Molly Burgdorf has served as the Head Girls Soccer
Coach for the past 4 years. A graduate of Vanderbilt
University in 2005, Mrs. Burgdorf received a degree
in Human and Organizational Development and
a Master’s degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
While at Vanderbilt, she was captain of the Varsity
Soccer team and a four-year member of the All-SEC
Academic Honor Roll. Coach Burgdorf also serves
as the school nurse when not coaching soccer.

DANNY WRIGHT
Head Boys Soccer Coach
Danny Wright teaches in the EHS History Department
and serves as Boys Soccer Head Coach. Coach
Wright grew up in Greensboro, North Carolina,
where he won NCISAA state championships as
both a player (1988) and a head coach (2000) at
Greensboro Day School. In 2000, he was named
North Carolina High School Coach of the Year by the
NC Soccer Coaches Association. Danny was also a
head coach at the club level in North Carolina for
the Greensboro Soccer Club (boys) and Greensboro
Twisters (girls) and most recently was the boys head
varsity soccer coach at Christ School near Asheville,
North Carolina. He played soccer collegiately at the
University of the South. Danny and his wife Heather
have two children, Howell and Betsy Hart.

PAUL WADE
EHS Associate Head Football Coach
Paul Wade enters his third year at Ensworth High School
as Associate Head Football Coach/Offensive Coordinator
and is entering his 21st year of coaching and teaching in
Nashville independent schools. Coach Wade’s last coaching
stop was at Davidson Academy where he served as Head
Football Coach from 2004-2009 capturing 3 state championship
titles in Division II-A. From 1999-2003 he was
Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator at CPA
leading them to 2 state championship titles. Success and
championships have followed Coach Wade everywhere he
has coached. While earning his B.S. in Health and Physical
Education, he was a member of the Tennessee Tech
University football team, as well as serving as a Graduate
Assistant coach in 1991.

J.K. SCOTT
Assistant Coach EHS Football
J.K. teaches middle school history and serves as head
coach of the middle school football and basketball teams,
in addition to being the quarterbacks coach for the High
School. He graduated in 2002 with a B.A. in Speech
Communication from University of Washington where
he was a scholarship quarterback on the 2001 Rose Bowl
Team. In 2009, J.K. received his Masters of Education
from Plymouth State University in Educational Leadership
(Athletic Administration). He is an active member of
Young Life, and spends his spring with Preston Taylor and
The Bridge ministries here in Nashville. J.K. and his wife
Kate have two children, Hailey and Jordan.

Chris Bradley begins his third year at Ensworth
High School where he serves as Assistant Athletic
Director, Head Wrestling Coach and Assistant
Football Coach. A Nashville native, Chris is entering
his 14th year in private education where he has
served as a teacher or coach. He attended Middle
Tennessee State University where he received a
B.S. in Political Science and holds a Master’s Degree
in Educational Administration from Tennessee
State University. Chris and his wife Ashley have 2

MEG FREEMAN
Head Girls Lacrosse Coach
Meg Freeman joined EHS in January 2001 as
Head Girls Lacrosse Coach. In the last three years
Ensworth won the 2009 State Championship,
finished as the 2010 state runner-up, and played in
the 2011 final four. Coach Freeman earned a scholarship
on the Division I varsity lacrosse team while
attending Vanderbilt University. Honors included
four-year All-SEC Academic Team, four-year All-
ALC Academic Team, four-year All-ALC Academic
Team, Vanderbilt Dean’s List, and multiple postgraduate
scholarships due to excellence in service
work. After graduating, she earned her M.Ed. from
Vanderbilt in Elementary Education.

JOSH ETHRIDGE
Assistant Wrestling Coach
Josh Ethridge begins his first year at Ensworth
High School as Associate Head Wrestling Coach.
A native of Nashville, he attended John Overton
High School where he was a four year starter and
captain of the wrestling team. In 2007 he was a
National Qualifier representing the state of Tennessee
in Judo. Before coming to Ensworth, Josh
was an assistant wrestling coach at Pinson Valley
High School in Alabama where he coached state
qualifiers and placers. He is currently working on
his Master’s Degree in Athletic Administration.
Josh and his wife Jennifer have 2 children, Avery
and Grayson.

ALAN GARNER
Head Boys Lacrosse Coach
Alan Garner is entering his first year as the head
boys Lacrosse Coach at Ensworth High School. Alan
previously spent 3 years at Webb School as the
boys Lacrosse head coach, and he started the boys
Lacrosse program at Hume Fogg Academy before
going to Webb. He is a Graduate of Keuka College
in upstate New York in 1991 with a B.S. degree in
Business Administration and Marketing. He was a
two sport athlete at Keuka in mens Lacrosse and
Basketball and was the captain of Lacrosse team.
He ended his Lacrosse career at Keuka as the 2nd
leading scorer in school history and is still currently
in the top ten in scoring. Alan is the Co-founder of
the Murfreesboro Lacrosse Summer league, which
is 3 years running.
