Special attention was paid to precision with this German 

developed and built machine. The developers were particularly 

focused on constructing a unit that can be integrated simply and 

smoothly in day-to-day garage procedures. 

The Hella ACTT 200 works fully automatically allowing the 

garage to operate with maximum precision and comfort. 

All of the processes from evacuation to fi lling are controlled 

automatically by the software, also the Hella ACTT 200 does not 

have any manual valves. In addition, the upgrade option makes 

our air-conditioning service station future-proof.

Power-Boost filling function 

The pressure in the refrigerant tank is automatically 

increased by the automatic Power-Boost process if 

the vehicle air-conditioning fi lling process becomes 

too slow. This optimises the fi lling process and 

avoids pressure compensation between the vehicle 

and the service unit. 

The Power-Boost process is entirely softwarecontrolled,

Software-controlled release of non-condensed gases 

The software automatically controls the bleeding of non-condensable 

gases (air), taking the refrigerant tank temperature and pressure 

parameters into account. It opens the draining valve to release air and 

stabilizes the correct pressure depending on the current refrigerant 

temperature.

The Hella range contains numerous service tools. Three of these 

are represented below. They were designed with the aim of 

offering a maximum range of practical performance – combined 

with excellent cost-effectiveness.

An air-conditioning system can be technically in order and yet still 

cause problems. The design of compact evaporators used today 

makes them an ideal nesting place and breeding ground for 

bacteria, fungi and other micro-organisms that then get into the 

vehicle interior through the ventilation system. 

This can cause allergic reactions among the passengers such as 

e. g. sneezing, coughing and watery eyes. In addition, a musty or

1. Access via interior fi lter: First of all, the interior fi lter is removed. Then dry the evaporator 

(see separate instructions on evaporator treatment). This is the only way to guarantee that the 

application will be successful. Check if the condensation drain hole is blocked with e. g. leafs. 

2. After cleaning, the Airsept applicator is introduced into the air inlet. Care must be taken 

that there is free access to the evaporator. Using the compressed air connection, a whole 

Airsept bottle (120 ml) is sprayed over the lamellae of the evaporator during the cleaning 

process. It is important to proceed exactly according to the operating instructions to 

guarantee perfect disinfection and drying. Then insert the new interior fi lter.

Protection from air condition service stations and 

compressors 

During the suction process, the Recycle Guard removes dirt 

particles, lubricants, contrast and sealing agents and any other 

soiling from the refrigerant before it reaches the air conditioning 

service station. 


This prevents damage such as clogging and sticking at the 

air-conditioning service station. The Recycle Guard can be used 

with refrigerant both in a liquid and gas form. Optimal results can 

be achieved if the refrigerant is extracted in gaseous condition. 

It is therefore recommended to connect the Recycle Guard to 

the vehicle connections that contain the refrigerant in a gaseous 

state. The Recycle Guard contains a fi lter element that should 

be replaced after 30 hours recycling/fi lling and of whenever the 

suction speed of the air conditioning device clearly deteriorates.

Hella refrigerant analysis device 

Detects and measures the degree of 

purity (in %) of R134a, R12, R22 

and hydrocarbons. 

The analysis device includes:

Every air-conditioning expert knows that the liquids R12 and 

R134a cannot be mixed up due to the connections. Yet no-one 

can be sure whether conversion has been carried out correctly or 

whether a different refrigerant than the one prescribed has been 

fi lled.

Additional risk factors are soiled and/or combustible refrigerants: 

Soiling and damage threaten the air-conditioning components 

and the air-conditioning service stations. In addition, further airconditioning 

systems can be contaminated through the soiled 

service station. This leaves the garage facing high follow-on 

costs. To be sure this doesn’t happen, a gas analysis should be 

carried out before every evacuation operation. A small refrigerant 

sample is taken from the low-pressure side of the air-conditioning 

system for this purpose. The refrigerant analysis device provides 

information about the refrigerant’s composition and degree of 

purity in less than a minute.

One of the most frequent causes of functional problems in the 

air-conditioning system are leaks in the refrigerant circuit. 

They lead to an imperceptible reduction of the fi lling quantity and 

therefore to drops in performance, through to total failure. As 

far as the refrigerant R134a is concerned in particular, it is well 

known that this diffuses out of rubber pipes and connections. 

Since air-conditioning experts cannot be sure whether there is a 

leak or whether the refrigerant loss is the normal loss over time, 

careful leak detection is a must.

Leak detection for forming gas 


New legal regulations no longer allow leaky air-conditioning 

plants to be fi lled with refrigerant. Therefor another medium is 

required for effective leak detection. 

The forming gas 95 / 5 is ideally suited for this being made to 

95 % of nitrogen and 5 % of hydrogen. Forming gas 95 / 5 is 

not harmful to the environment, it is not fl ammable and is not 

poisonous. After the air-conditioning system has been fi lled, 

the special leakage searcher is used to fi nd leaks. As hydrogen 

atoms are the smallest particles occurring in nature, they will exit 

even at the smallest leaks. 

Another difference compared to the R134a refrigerant is that 

hydrogen is lighter than air and therefore all components and 

connections can be checked from above. Leaking evaporators 

can be detected by taking measurements at the air outlet 

nozzles in the centre console. Laborious measurements at 

the condensation water drain or the foot air outlets are not 

necessary. 

After searching for leaks, the forming gas can simply be released 

to the atmosphere. The leak detector for forming gas only reacts 

to hydrogen. 

Since pure hydrogen is not present in the engine compartment, 

there is no cross-sensitivity. This makes leakage detection very 

reliable.

Spring-Lock connections are used by some vehicle 

manufacturers for installation of the air-conditioning systems in 

the factory. This principle sees two different inserted elements 

set up a pipeline connection. They can only be opened for 

repairs using special Spring-Lock tools. Hella’s air-conditioning 

catalogue lists the range of Spring-Lock tools for different vehicle 

brands. 

1. The tight pipeline connection cannot 

be opened without the respective 

tools. 

2. The opened tool, which is used to 

loosen the connection (different Spring- 

Lock tools depending on the size of 

the pipe). The tool is placed around the 

connection with the loosening edge

Professional fl ushing upholds warranty claims and prevents 

follow-on repairs. A clean system is the basic requirement for a 

perfectly functioning air-conditioning system. During fl ushing with 

fl ushing liquid, the entire system is chemically cleaned and freed 

of stubborn particles. 

Rising of the air conditioning system and its components is one 

of the most common and important repair tasks. It is carried out 

to remove soiling and damaging substances. 

This includes: 

1. Metal wear during compressor damage 2. Elastomer particles 

3. Silicate (fi lter drier) 4. Moisture and 5. Soiled refrigerant oil. 

As an alternative to the simple and straightforward cleaning of the 

air-conditioning system using our air-conditioning service unit, a 

good cleaning result is also achieved by fl ushing with chemical 

liquid. Subsequently the fl ushed part of the air-conditioning 

system must be blown out with nitrogen and dried. 

Please note: 

System components must always be fl ushed individually. Dryer, 

valves and compressors must not be fl ushed. 

Flushing with refrigerant 

The innovative air-conditioning service unit Hella ACTT 200 

with its integrated fl ushing function makes the fl ushing of airconditioning 

systems fast and economical. An additional external 

fl ushing unit and fl ushing adapter set have to be used, which are 

available separately. After the function has been started on the 

unit, the vehicle's air conditioning system is fi lled with max. 4 kg 

liquid refrigerant and then suctioned off again.

Hella flushing device 

This device supports the rinsing process (refrigerant R134a) with the Hella air conditioning service devices. It is connected 

between the air-conditioning service unit and the vehicle air-conditioning system. This device ensures that the liquid refrigerant 

fl ows through all of the parts of the air conditioning system that need to be rinsed is rinsed. The transparent containers help the

Drying with nitrogen 


After the rinsing process, the connection lines and the system 

components are blown-out individually with standard nitrogen 

and dried at the same time (technical nitrogen/ pressure up 

to 12 bar). No disposal costs are incurred. Blowing out with 

nitrogen alone does not remove any stubborn particles and only 

transports a fraction of the oil out of the circuit.

To guarantee an adequate intensity of the leak detection agent in the 

refrigerant circuit, around 10 % of the require oil filling quantity in 

the air conditioning circuit must be replaced or filled with PAO-Oil 68 

PLUS UV. Of course, the PAO-Oil 68 PLUS UV can be used for 100 % 

of the oil filling quantity. 

Tests performed by the manufacturer (e.g. The sealed tube tests according 

to the standard ASHRAE 97) show that the product has no negative effect 

on the components of the air conditioning circuit. The same also applies 

when used in air conditioning service stations.
