Information and Education Sessions<br />
• Held two information sessions regarding international study<br />
• Held 6 educational seminars<br />
• Created an informational web site<br />
• Created a technology and information task force to enhance visibility and possibility <strong>of</strong><br />
global educational opportunities for students<br />
Scholarships, Funding and Awards<br />
• Developed a list <strong>of</strong> financial resources/scholarships for global study<br />
• Developed procedure for J-Term students to apply for travel funds.<br />
• Awarded 11 scholarships for summer travel and 6 for J term travel.<br />
• Awarded the Global Visionary Award to Emma Mitchell, PhD<br />
Partnerships and Collaborations<br />
• Collaboration with ISO through ISO liaison to committee.<br />
• Participated in Symposium on Rural Global Health with–Center for Global Health<br />
• Megan Coe has been named as a member <strong>of</strong> the Trainee Conference Advisory<br />
<strong>Committee</strong> for the <strong>2011</strong> GHEC-CUGH-CSIH Global Health Conference<br />
• Supported the development <strong>of</strong> clinical sites and international partnerships for student<br />
exchanges including from Australia, Denmark, Taiwan, Hong Kong and New Zealand<br />
through assignment <strong>of</strong> faculty and/or clinical liaisons to each.
• Continued connections with Universitas 21<br />
• Consortium <strong>of</strong> Universities for Global Health (CUGH) – D. Greiner attended meeting,<br />
850 people, they are looking at merging with Global Health Education Consortium<br />
(GHEC)<br />
• D. Greiner and M. Baernholdt visited Lillian Carter Center at Emory and plan to contact<br />
other SONs that have international programming.<br />
• Created task force to explore and make recommendations regarding Globalization <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Curriculum – ensuring that nursing curriculum includes content on global health issues.<br />
Motions passed by the committee:<br />
• Endorsed the proposal from the task force to develop a Rural Global Health Center.<br />
Passed November <strong>2010</strong>.<br />
• Proposal to require all <strong>International</strong> Graduate Students who have not completed at least<br />
12 regular, non English as a Second Language (ESL), credits at an American University,<br />
to take the course in American Culture and English <strong>of</strong>fered by the <strong>International</strong> Studies<br />
Office prior to enrollment in the nursing curriculum. Passed in committee (December 6,<br />
<strong>2010</strong>). Presented to Steering (Feb <strong>2011</strong>) then to MSN DNP and PhD <strong>Committee</strong>s and<br />
passed in Faculty Organization March 28, <strong>2011</strong><br />
Recommendations for the incoming committee:<br />
• Continue to support mission <strong>of</strong> globalization <strong>of</strong> the curriculum<br />
• Continue to support international exchange <strong>of</strong> students and development <strong>of</strong> international<br />
sites for clinical experiences<br />
• Continue to explore and develop interdepartmental, interdisciplinary, local, regional and<br />
global partnerships that contribute to the teaching, research and service missions <strong>of</strong> the<br />
<strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nursing</strong>.<br />
